AUTOIVIATIC REGULATING GATE.
Application filed June 1, 1925. Serial No. 33,326.
This is an adjustable, automatically regulated gate for providing a constant flow of water through a channel, regardless of the fluctuating of the level of water.
The object of the invention is to provide a device for automatically regulating the flow of water in a channel or the like.
Another object of the invention is to pro-o vide an automatic regulating device for controlling the flow of water in a channel or the like which may readily be adjusted.
And the further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable automatic regulating gate which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these ends in view, the invention embodiesa U shaped frame with a flat plate at the bottom, a series of openings in the side members and an inclined plate slidably supported between the side members.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connection with the draw ings, whereinzl3igure 1 is a cross section. through the gate and channel or the like in which it may be placed. I
Figure 2 is a. front View of the gate.
Figure 3' is a view similar to that shown in Figure 1, showing the gate after it has been moved upward.
In the drawings I have-shown my device as it would be constructed wherein numeral 1 indicates a U shaped frame, numeral 2, the adjustable inclined plate and numeral 3 a channel or the like in which the gate may be placed.
The frame 1 is constructed with two vertical bars as indicated by the numerals l and 5 and a horizontal bar as indicated by the numeral 6, the lower part of the frame is provided with a plate 7 and the upper part of the vertical members 4: and 5 are provided with holes 8 and 9 for adjustably holding the plate 2. The frame 1 is held at the edges by rollers 10 and 11 and one sideand guide members 12 on the opposite side, both the rollers and guide members being attached to the sides of the channel 3. Although this frame is disclosed and described as being of a rectangular shape it is under stood that it may be of any suitable shape to fit a channel orthe like of any suitable design.
The member 2 is provided with a plate 13 stoodfrom the foregoing description.
which may be straight or may have its forwardend curved slightly downward and its rear end curvedslight-ly upward as shown in Figure 1. The plate is provided with side members it having flanges 15 and 16 to engage the bars 4 and 5 as shown in Figures 1 downward.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the design orshape of any of'the members, another may '7 be in the design of the member 2, or in the means for slidably holding it to the bars 1- and 5 or in the means for adjustably holding it to the bar, and still another may be in the design, arrangement or shape of the channel in which the device may be placed.
The construction will be readily under- To use the device, the frame 1 may be, inserted in a channel or the like as shown in the drawing and it will be observed that the member 2 may be set to any suitable position It will be observed thatas the surface of the water engages the under side of the inclined plate 13 it will raise the entire frame and the opening between this plate and the plate 7 will thereby be raised to keep the flow. of" the water constant regardless of the level of the water in the channel. By adjusting the position of the member 2, the opening through which the water flows may be regulated,- sothatthe same amount of water will be permitted to flow through the weir or into the channel at all times, even though the water level may vary considerably.
Having thus fully. described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is
1. In a device of the class described, a slidable frame, an adjustable opening, in
the said. frame, a means for slidably suppor mg the said frame 111. a channel through which water may pass, and an inclined battle sl w" plate in the upper part of thesaid-opening for raising and lowering the said frame as the Water level Varies.
2. In a gate for providinga constant flow of Water through a channel, a slidable frame With an adjustable opening and an inclined bafiie plate adjustably held on the said frame and forming the upper part of the said opening for raising and lowering the opening, said means being operated by the rise and fall of the Water level;
3. In a device for keeping the fiow' o'f Water through a channel constant, a slidable frame having an opening therein, an inclined plate adjustably held in the said frame for forming-the upper partof the said-opening and a means for holding the said frame in a channel or the like.
4. In a device for keeping the flow of water through a channel constant, a slidable frame havingan opening. therein, and an inclined plate adjustably held in the said frame for forming the upper part of the said opening.
