IMPROVEMENT IN BRlDLE-BITS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,590, dated J une 15, 1875 application filed March 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB G. PETERSON, of Morganton, in the county of Burke and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bridle-Bits and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawings is a representation of a plan view of my bit.
This invention has relation to the construction of bridle-bits; and it consists in forming the bit of a single piece of steel-wire, bending the same, at the ends of the bar, at right angles, first in one direction and then reversely, and twisting the doubled portions, thereby forming strong shanks, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the bar of the -bit, which may be formed in any of the usual shapes. At each end of the bar the wire is bent at right angles for a certain distance, and then bent in the reverse direction, carried past the bar a sufficient distance, and terminated with bridle loops a. The doubled portion of the shank thus formed is bent into a bridle-loop, b, at the end of the shank, and the wires are then twisted together in the portion 0, between said loop and the bar.
This bit is made without welding, ,is quite strong, and durable, and presents a sufficiently ornamental appearance for the usual market.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A bridle-bit, constructed of a single piece of steel wire, by bending and doubling the same at right angles with the bar, and twisting the doubled portions 0 together, substantially as specified.
