- 1,645,197 L. E. KOONTZ ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR RANGE BOILERS Filed Dec. 51. 1925 Patented Oct. 11, 1927.
UNITED STATES LIONEL ELDRIDGE KOONTE, OF EAST PALESTINE, OHIO.
ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR RANGE BOILERS.
Application filed December 31, 1925.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in supports for range boilers, and the primary ob ect thereof is to provide a support which may be ad usted to accommodate boilers of'varying sizes, or diameters.
A further object of the invention is to provide a support which is of slmple and economical construction, which involves a minimum number of parts, and which can be easily and quickly adjusted to fit and support boilers of varying sizes. i
A still further ob ect of the invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned which may be formed to utllize the drain pipe for LSSlStlIIg'III the performance of its function of holdingtheboiler In describing the invention in detall, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the lnvention Figure 2 is a side elevation of the invention applied to a boiler, a fragmentary portion ofthe latter, partly in section, being shown;
Figure 3 is a section on line 8 3, of Fig. 2;
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail View, partly in section, showing the adjustable connec-' tion; and
Figure 5 is a side elevation of the splder. In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a spider, which may be a single casting or of other one-piece construction, is employed, the same consisting of a central body portion, which may have the form of a sleeve or hub 1, adapting 1t to receive the lower end portion of the boiler drain pipe (not shown). A plurality of arms 2 extend radially from the body portion 1 and each thereof is formed with a series of transversely disposed and spaced grooves or seats 3 on their upper edges or faces.
The boiler B has the usual depending edge or rim R at its bottom and is supported by legs a, herein shown as three in number,
Serial No. 78,575.
which are of channel bar form in cross-section, as is best shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The legs 4: have U-shaped seats 4 in their upper ends to receive the boiler rim R, and have enlarged parts 5 intermediate their ends formed with openings 6 to receive the radial arms of the spider. The parts 5 are provided with perforations 8 adapted to register with one or another of the grooves 3 of the spider arms and through which cotter pins 7 are projected.
V The grooves 3 may be as many in number as may be desired and may also be spaced apart at varying distances to adapt the support for use with boilers within a wide range of diameters.
In use, the legs 4 are adjusted along the arms 2 to cause their seats 4 to underlie the rim R of the boiler, whereupon the cotter pins 7 are projected through the perforations of the parts 5 and the grooves in register with said perforations, whereupon the pin ends are spread, as shown in Fig. 4, for locking the pins against chance withdrawal.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the legs are not only capable of adjustment to fit boilers of varying diameters, but, additionally, they are supported intermediate their ends by the unitary spider, thus afford ing a firm and stable boiler supporting structure. In this supporting function, the body portion 1, when made in sleeve form, may
receive supplementary support from a drain pipe directed downward therethrough.
\Vhat is claimed is A boiler support comprising a spider having a sleeve-like body provided with an opening for the reception of a drain pipe, arms extending radially therefrom, legs having enlarged portions intermediate their ends apertured to receive the arms therethrough, said legs having boiler seats formed on the uppper ends thereof, and means for securing said legs in adjusted relation to said arms.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
LIONEL ELDRIDGE KOONTZ.
