This inventionrelates to an improved apparatus .for manufacturing roller. and semiroller chains and the object ofthe invention is to provide means for collating the different parts and for quickly assembling the same with accurate adjustment.
The apparatus consists of two devices for collating the parts and a device for assembling the parts made of cast metal with the beds recessed to receive the parts, and pro-, 'vided with movable members for holding the parts together and locking levers therefor, said beds being formed integral with base plates which latter are adapted to be fastened to a bench.
To fully describe the invention reference is now made to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1, is a plan of the primary collating device shown closed.
Fig. 2, is a plan of the secondary collating device shown open with the side cheek of a link in position.
Fig. 3, is a perspective view of the secondary collating device open showing the side cheek and the distance bushes of a link.
Fig. 4, is a plan of the assembling'device, open. 7
Fig. 5, is a perspective view of the same.
Fig. 6, is a broken perspective view of the bed.
Fig. 7, is'a broken perspective view of the slideblock.
Fig. 8, is a perspective view of one cheek and the distance bushes.
Fig. 9, is a perspective view of a link complete. 7 V v Fig. 10, is a plan of one cheek and elevation of a distance bush.
Fig. 11, is a plan view showing two hushed links, and one incomplete rivet link, before assembling.
Fig. '12. is a plan view showing two hushed links and one rivet link assembled.
In Figs. 1, 2, and 3, 1 is the base plate having slots l at the end for bolting down on to a bench.
2 is the bed of the device which as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 is recessed to receive the side checks of the link while the bed in Fig. 1 is plain. I
The bed is formed integrally with a superimposed solid side member 3; in Figs. 2 and 3 they are rabbeted on the underside to accommodate the cheeks of the links; on to the top of the side member is fitted plate 4 for holding'the cheeksera. links-inns curateposition and the solid side member 3 in Fig. 3 is vertically grooved whichito gether with vertical grooves 5 in'the'hirrged jig 5, Fig.""3, hol'dthe rivets 8 in accurate position. bin-Figs. '1, 2'and lockeilby "an eccentric "lever 6,1 whi'l'e the underside ofthe solid member 3 in Figs. 2 and 3 is rabbeted. 7 are the side cheeks of the links and 8 the shouldered distance bushes and 8 the rivets in Fig. 3.
In Figs. 4 and 5 which illustrate the assembling device 1 is the base plate, 2 the bed, 3 the superimposed solid side member fitted with plate 4 for holding the checks of the links inaccurate position. 9 represents a groove in the bed to accommodate the end of the rivets. f V
The bed is slotted on one side asindicated at 2 in which is fitted a spiral spring'IO; a slide block 11' formed integral with a lug 11 fits into the slot 2 said slide block locked hy the eccentric lever 6. 12 is a stop to arrest the movement of the slide block 11. The solid member 3 is rabbeted on its underside to accommodate thecheeks of the links. V r
In using the invention two shouldered distance bushes are put in the primary collating device which is then closed by the eccentric lever 6, a cheek is then placed on the shouldered distance bushes and pressed hya plunger to fix the same together, the combination is then removed, reversed and placed in the secondary collating device which isthen closed and locked by the eccentric lever and a cheek placed on to the shouldered distance bushes and pressed by a plunger which completes one hushed link.
To make a rivet link, rivets are placed in I a similar collating device as used for the hushed links with the exception thatthe holes in same for holding the rivets are smaller, a cheek placed on top and pressed by 2; plunger, when one half of a rivet link is mac e.
To assemble the hushed and rivet links to form a chain a hushed linkis placed on each rivet of the rivet link, then placed in an assembling device illustrated by Figs. 4 and 5 and a cheek placed on top of the rivets and Dressed by av plunger which completes a length of chain consisting of arivet link and two hushed links, the operation isrepeated to make a continuity of the chain, the hushed] the" internal linksuaildtherivet theIexternal'li'nks, j r'f b c v ,gya forward eccenltr mov ment-clam s? thej chai'n in imsi ivb egil ,i iwma h F "1 eeem e by: Letters; Patent is 1 Appa'rat 's for rmenuf actu r mgi relief and interalYtherewith, a sidemember'inteipm tibne of the link,ta movably mounted 6n the'ilpper s'ilrfacep Aftlfthdfl chain isf fisseiphlfedj the linksiere' eemrmHer-I Ch'aiii's'f including a base plate, a
