Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
164,429, dated J une 15, 1875; application filed April 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRED. H. CROGKER, of Gonic, in the county of Strafford and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Stop-Motion for bpinning-lllachines, of which the following is a specification:
The invention relates to the construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and claimed, for throwing off the driving-belt in case the squaring-band breaks or becomes too loose, and thus preventing the carriage being thrown off the track, and the consequences usually resulting therefrom.
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the back portion of the frame, driving-pulleys, belt-shipper, and the apparatus comprising my improved stop-motion. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 00 :0.

A is the fast pulley, on which the drivingband is when the carriage is going out. B is the loose pulley, on which the driving-band is when the carriage is going back, and (J is the loose pulley on which it is to be thrown when the squaring-band breaks. D is the shipperlever, which has a spring, E, and arm F, connected to it, so as to pull it in the direction for keeping the band on the fast pulley A, and holding the cord G up taut. This cord passes along the end of a lever, H, and rests in a notch, I, in it, and has a knot or ball, J, to prevent being drawn through the notch. Beyond the lever it passes through the pulleys K, and suspends the weight L, which is for throwing the shipper-lever when the cord G is thrown out of the notch I in the lever by the pawl M. The spring N swings the lever and the pawl whenever the squaring-band fails, the spring being kept extended by extensions 0 of the squaring-band, connected to the lever H by running through a stationary pul ley, It, and a pulley, Q, on the lever, so as to allow the spring to contract if the band breaks. The squaring-band has knots S made in it at the pulleys to hold it the same aswhen fastened to the frame in the ordinary way.
vHaving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The squaring-band, provided with the extensions O, in combination with the pulleys R Q, notched lever H, spring N, pawl M, the weighted cord G, provided with the stop J', and the shipper-lever D, all substantially as specified.
