REENFORCED PAPER Boxf Application filed February The present invention relates to aper receptacles and consists in the com inat-ions and arrangements of elements hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the accompanying claims.
The invention has for its purpose to provide a paper box, of the kind usually employed for-packaging shoes, having re-enforced end portions whereby the box corners are rigidly braced, and the box as a whole made appreciably stronger. It is understood. of course, that the box herein disclosed may be used for any other purpose, e. for packing candy or the like.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide a box of. re-enforced cardboard to the end that it may stand up rigidly when the boxes are one upon the other on display, or in storage, thereby avoiding the inconvenience and generally objectionable appearance of such boxes when collapsed, as frequently occurs with the boxes of this type now in use.
It is further proposed to provide a re-enforced cardboard box of this type which will have an unbroken or uninterrupted inside and outside surface, one wherein the inside dimensions of the box are not altered, which is of simple design, attractive in appearance, and can be produced atonly a small increase above the present cost of production.
The invention is shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box complete;
Figure 2, thereof; and
Figure 3, a plan view showing the construction of the box end portions before assembly.
Referring to the construction in further detail and wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the different figures shown, the box is made preferably of ordinary cardboard and consists of a bottom portion 5, similar side portions 6, re-enforced end portions 7, and a completely covering wrapper 8, as shown.
Each of the end portions 7 is made up of a triangular flap 9 formed integral with the bottom portion 5, and two triangular and similarly shaped flaps 10 formed conti)nuous with the side portions 6 (see Fig. 3

top marginaledge portion of the box end as clearly shown in Figure 2. Entirely overlying the exterior surface of the box end is a re-enforcing piece 18 which dimensions are the same as the cross section of the box (see Figure 1).
In the process of manufacture, the several end portions of the box are assembled and secured together with suitable fastening'means or an adhesive, and overlying the entire box exterior is an ordinary paper wrapper 8 having an inturned marginal por tion 19 that overlies the entire exposed edge of the box as shown. the wrapper 8 may be dispensed with entirely inasmuch as the end pieces 18 completely cover and conceal all joining edges of the box structure.
It will therefore be seen from the foregoing that a re-enforced cardboard box is provided which gives the maximum strength of the material employed, and one having all the advantages and serving every purpose of the present used boxes, with the additional advantages herein set forth. And all obtainable with no appreciable increase of material or cost of production.
It is to be understood that the invention as here disclosed is not limited to the details of construction shown and described, and these may be varied widely without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A cardboard box constructed from a blank and comprising a bottom portion, side portions, and end portions formed of flaps on said side and bottom portions, said flaps having their contiguous edges abutting one another for substantially their full lengths; and separate cardboard pieces -co-dimensional with the box cross-section secured to 'said flaps throughout substantially their entire surfaces on the exterior of the box thereby roviding increased supporting strength or the purpose set forth.
