Description

Patented Sept. 27, 1927.
.fUNIrED STATES FRITZ KUCHENMEISTER, OF HENNEF, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO GEBRUDER STEIMEL,
OF HENNEF, GERMANY.
DAIRY MACHINE.
Application filed February 19, 1926, Serial No. 89,456, and in Germany February 28, 1925.
Many forms of small dairy outfits are already known, but without exception they are set up of four separate machine, namely: the centrifuge, churn, butter kneader and motor. In these known arrangements an important part is played by the driving means, that is belt transmission or similar reducing or change speed intermediate drives, which are expensive to provide. Be-
sides this the space occupied by such means is very great and they can seldom be set up in rural households. All too seldom indeed is a milk room provided. The present small dairy outfit can be setup in a space of a square metre.
This invention relates to a combination of motor, centrifuge, churn and butter kneader, in such a manner, that all the individual machines are'mounted on or in a single maapparatus. By means of a clutch device any desired individual machine can be set in action. In order to keep the power consumption low and to use a weak electric motor, it is arranged that during churning and kneading, the rapidly rotating separator drum acts as regulating and evening flywheel: that is the unavoidable jerking variations in power requirement are evened out by the momentum of the rapidly rotating flywheel. The accompanying drawings illustrate two embodiments of a small dairy machine in accordance with the invention.
Figure 1 shows an outfit with a suspended separator drum.
In Figure 1 a is the pedestal of the machine which carries a kneading plate I). Beneath this stands a churn c. To the right above is a drive ,housing cl. Onv this is screwed a motor 6. The armature shaft f of the motor is of worm form opposite a worm wheel g and meshes therewith. In this way a shaft h is driven. In addition a toothed wheel 2' is mounted on the armature shaft and meshes with a pinion is. This carries a drive spindle Z which rotates a separator drum m through a coupling. n is a collecting cover which leads ofi' separately the chine pedestal and thus form only a single cream and skimmed milk. The whole milk to be skimmed is poured into a bowl 0 and is led into the drum m through a pipe p.
The shaft 71. carries a toothed whee], g which meshes with teeth 7' in the kneading table 3) and thus drives it. There is also a bevel wh;el s on the shaft h, which meshes with a bevel wheel t and thus drives the spindle u provided with a couplin for the shaft '2) of the churn beater 4 whic is thus rotated. I
A spindle w is borne in a vertical arm to of the pedestal a, on which spindle rotates a kneading roller 2. This is driven b a toothed wheel a meshing with a toot ed crown 3 on the kneading plate I).
The individual machines are put in and out of gear by longitudinally sliding the shaft h by a screw j engaging in'a thread 3 in the drive housing all.
Figure 1 shows the machine with the churn in gear. The separator drum runs during churning and kneading. If the churn is to be put out of gear the screw j is so turned that the shaft 72. moves to the right. The wheel pair st goes out of mesh and the machine is now ready for separating, while thechurn and kneader remain Sta-- tionary. By further turning the screw the shaft h moves still further to the right, so that the wheel 9 mesheswith the teeth 'I' and the kneading plate is rotated. At the same time the roller 2 is also driven through the crown y and wheel 2.
A hand crank can be secured to the shaft 71. in front of the screw j for use in case of interruption in the supply of electric power.
In Figure 2 the same arrangement is shown with a standing instead of suspended separator drum. The action is the same as that above described.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In a small dairy outfit embodying a pedestal, a kneadingplate and achurn carried thereby, a motor, and a connection between the motor and the kneading plate and the churn, the'combination with such elements of a separator drum arranged to run during churning and kneading and to serve as a regulatin fly Wheel to balance the churn and the neader.
2. In a dairy machine, a butter churn, and its shaft, a butter kneader, a motor and its shaft, a horizontal shaft with gearing between the motor shaft and the horizontal shaft, operative connections between the horizontal shaft and the shaft of the butter kneader and the churn, shiftable connections 1 between the butter kneader and the churn, said connections embodying a Worm Wheel having teeth sufficiently long to permit of the shifting of the horizontal shaft to drive the desired element irrespective of the other. 1 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
