Description

J. L. WENTZ MASSAGE MACHINE Filed Nov. 25, 1925 Patented Sept. 20, 1927.
" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MASSAGE Application filed November My invention is for an improvement in massage machines. p
An object of my invention is to provide a machine of the character specified which operates by gravity. Another object is to make the machine operable by contact of the torso or part of the body to be massaged with the machine. p
The preferred form of my invention is ilv lustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which 7 Figure l is an elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts thruout the several views.
The massage machine 1 including a table 9 is mounted 011 a standard or fulcrum 2 about which it is free topivot. The machine 1' has a pair of parallel frame members 8, 3, having oppositely disposed bearing sockets along their inner faces. Between these frame members are mounted a series of rollers having their axes in a com mon plane. Fixed in either end of each roller in its axial line is a pin 5, 5. These pins loosely engage the before mentioned sockets in the frame members, 3, 3. The rollers are thus free to rotate.
Fixed at either end of each of the frame members 3, 8 isv a support, 6, 7 extending above the plane of the frame members and referably flared outwardly therefrom. Mounted above each frame member and substantially parallel thereto and fixed to supports 6, 6 'or 7, 7 is a bar or rod 8, 8 which serves as a handrail.
The rollers 4 may have the curved surface shown in Figure 2 or a surface of any desired form or contour, as that shown in the drawing merely illustrates a. conventional type of roller.
In the operation of this massage machine the party or operator sits or lies upon the rollers 4 which are mounted upon the table 9. The operator then grasps the handrail 8 and pulls himself beyond the fulcrum 2 meanwhile sliding over the said rollers when the table 9 will tilt due to gravity and the operator relaxing his grip on the handrails MACHINE.
23, 1925. Serial No. 70,747.
will slide down over the rollers thus massaging the part of the body in contact with the rollers. The rail will now be grasped again and the operator will pull or push himself beyond the fulcrum in the opposite direction, forcing himself over the rollers and thereby massaging the body until the fulcrum 2 has been passed when gravity will again act causing the operator to slide down over the rollers as before, but toward the opposite end of the table. A further advantage and beneficial result to the operator is the exercise from pulling or pushing his weight up the incline beyond the fulcrum.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: i
1. In a device of the character described, a fulcrum support, a table pivoted on said fulcrum, spaced parallel frame members on said table, sockets diametrically spaced along the inner faces of said frame members, a plurality of rollers mounted to rotate freely in said sockets, a hand rail supported by and spaced from each. said frame member and extending longitudinally thereof.
2. In a massage machine, the combination of a standard, a table pivotally mounted substantially at its middle point on said standard, said table having parallel spaced frame members, rollers freely journaled in said frame members, supports mounted on said frame members and rods fixed to said supports in spaced parallel relation to said frame members.
3. Ina massage machine, the combination of a standard, a table fulcrumed on said standard, rollers rotatably mounted in the plane of said table, grip means, above said table whereby an operator on said table can pull himself past the fulcrum to tip the table.
4:. In a massage machine, the combination of a standard, a table fulcrumed on said standard to tilt, and massaging rollers rotatably mounted on said table, whereby an operator positioned on said tilted table will slide thereover and be massaged by said rollers.
In testimony whereof I aflix my si ature.
