Description

fname swf 2? 92" JERE L. WENTZ, F PASSAC, NEW JERSEY.
Massaal: Maenner..
,4pp1ica tien led September 22, 192.5. Serial No. 57,825.
My invention relates to .improvements in massage machines and the object of my invention is to provide a machine adapted to massage or knead the human body and parts thereof.
I accomplish this object 'by the device' illustrated inthe accompanying drawings in which is shown the preferred form of a device embodyng myinvention, and in lo which n Figure 1 is avertical sectional view of the device,
Figure 2 is a side view, Figures 3 and 4 are views showing the p l5 device in operation, and
Figure 5 is a detail of the snap fastening I means.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My device preferably includes a frame l with Aa rotatable drum 2 havingperipheral rollersfand a motor 4 by which the drum y 2 lis rotated. 1 The frame may be constructed 5, with cross bars 9 and 10. This frame may be conveniently constructed of iron piping. On the uprights 5 are provided supporting rails 12 and 13 carrying a hollow ,bar 6 on the underside of which is provided 3.9 a driving motor 4 and pulley 14: to which is attached. a worm gear through which. the power is transmitted to a eared driving wheel 15 on the drum 2. T is drum 2 in# cludes two side wheels 16 and 17 with con- A necting bars 18, 18 and is rotatable onthe bar or axle 6 ythru which the current feed wire runs to the motor 4 as shown. Loose rotatablerollers 19, 20 of any desired shape are mounted .peripherally .on the wheels 16 and 17. For this purpose I prefer to provide bearing` pins'19 and 20 respectively on the rollers 19 and 2 0. y f These pins are seated in sockets 22, 22 in the wheel 16 adjacent its marginal edge and held. 1
. I have found it desirable in some cases to of uprightsk in open sockets 23,123 in the wheel 17 ad-` bar between th necessary to show only a single roller so 1 vary the form of the rollers and I have therefore'shown in the drawings t-wo forms of these rollers. In one form 19, -I have shown rollers having flared end sections 242 and an intermediate cylindrical section'24; in another form 20, I have shown rollers having two broad annular grooves 25 and 25 and a raised intermediate section 26 but these forms may be varied'as conditions ma require or individual taste may dictate. also provide, whenrdesireda removable back rest 27 which may be carried on removable posts 28, 29 inserted in the frame. Electric current for driving the motor may be supplied from the house current or from any convenient source and is controlled by means of a switch (not shown) in` the usual well known manner. The device being thus assembled, the motor is started whereby the drum carrying the rollers will be caused to revolve. l The part of the body tol be acted upon is then brought into ycontact with the rollers causing them to revolve whereby a gentle kneading or massaging .action will be received. The person to be operated upon may be seated as shown in Fig. 3 upon the revolving drum or may lie upon it or may rest a limb as shown in Fig. 4 or other part of Vthe body thereon as desired. y
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim 1s v' l. In a massage machine the combination of a frame, an axle thereon, side wheels journaled to rotate on said axle, one of saidwheels having peripheral sockets therein, the. other said wheels having peripheral open sockets therein, rollers loosely mounted in said sockets between said wheels and spring clips on said second mentioned 'wheel Y adjacent and extendinginto said open sockets whereby said rollers are removably heldci in said sockets.-
2.-l In a device of the character describedv the combination of' a pair of spaced frame members, a bar connectsaid frame members, a pair of wheels Journaled substantially at the ends of said bar to rotatethere-4 on rollers on the peripheral margin of said' wheels, a gear iixed to the 'inner'side of one of saidwheels a motor supported b said 's aced wheels an gear meansconnecting t e iirst lmentioned gear and said motor.
3. In a device of the character described the combination of twov side frame members los v a motor supported by spaced whe having a detachable back mounted thereon, an e supported by said frame members said axle, a pair of spaced wheels journaled to rotate on said axle, connecting bars between said wheels, gear means operatively connectin said motor and said wheels, diametricalfy op sockets around the periphery osaid w eels and rollershaving pins thereon adapted to t in said sockets.
4. In a massage machine the combination of a frame an axle supported thereby els journaled to rotate on said axle, a gear fixed' to one of said wheels on the' inner side thereof, a motor V'mounted on said axle and gear means voperativel connecting the motor and first mentione gear,
.connecting bars between said wheels, sockets In testimony whereof, I have signed my` name to this specification this 26th day of .August 1925.
