UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
ROBERT S. HARRIS, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOElNG-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,296, dated June 8, 1875; application filed February 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT S. HARRIS, of Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocksfor Confining Horses while being Shod; and I do hereby declare thefollowin g to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inven tion.
The object of my invention is to provide an apparatus for securely holding fractious and impatient horses while being shod, in such inannerth at they can neither rear, kick, plunge,
nor lie down.
My invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents the roof or ceiling of the shop or shed in which these stocks are placed. B B
B B are four posts or hangers dependent from said ceiling, and firmly secured by braces b b. O C (only one being shown in the drawing, the other being concealed by the figure of the horse) are horizontal bars extending longitudinally on each side between the posts B B B B. D is a strap which passes over or in front of the horses breast; E, a strap, which passes under its belly back of its fore legs; I, a strap passing over the fore shoulders; Gr, a strap to go over the loins; H, a strap passing under the belly near the sheath, and I a strap going around the rump. Each of these straps is formed in two pieces, having their respective ends fastened, as shown, to the rigid framework, and are provided with buckles c' 'i, &c.
A horse fastened in these stocks must perforce remain quiet, and cannot seriously interfere with the shoeing operation.
Should the horse incline to bite, his head may be tied to a ring in the ceiling, or to the posts B B in front.
Vhat I claim as my invention is The horseslioeing-stocks herein described, consisting of the pendants B B B B, longitudinal railsG G, and strapsD,E, F, G, H, and I, constructed and combined substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of January, 1875.
