ATHLETIC SHOE.

.v My inventio-n relates to improvements in athletic shoes, especially adapted for use by foot-ball players, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and efficient tread memberfor such shoes which will serve to prevent slippingI and will not injurevother players.

Fig. 3 a section of a modified form of construction? y The form of construction illustrated in Figs. 1 vand 2 comprises a rubber tread member 5 having a headed bolt `6 embedded therein with the threaded shank of said bolt projecting from the base of said tread member. An internally threaded socket member'7 is fitted into a recess 8 in the lower portion of the shoe sole, said socket member being provided at its lower end with a stopiiange 9 fitting against a washer 10 resting against the bottom of the shoe sole 11. The socket member7 is held in place by means of a vthreaded stud 12 provided with a relatively large head 13, said stud extending through the upper portion of the shoe lsole to engagel said socket member. The head 13 of the stud 12 is covered by the usual insole 14 as shown. In use a number .of such tread members are applied to the i L sole and heel of the shoe as shown. .By this arrangement a simple and effective tread member is provided which will effectively .j prevent sl'iyrping .and willV not injure other a players. hen' worn the tread members may be readily removed land may be applied to the shoe by unskilled persons when desired.

16 formed integral therewith, said socket member extending through the sole of the shoe as shown. The lower end of the socket member is also externally threaded and a nut 17 engaged therewith to rest upon 'the washer 10 and hold the socket member in place and clamp-theshoe sole. Otherwise the construction is the .same as that already described.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred forms of construction for car` rying my invention into effect, these are capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such va' riations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1.. The combination with a shoe, of a clamping member mounted in the sole thereof and having a threaded socket, said clamping member being made in two separable parts secured together, each part having a head onv its end and said heads cooperating to clampl the sole between them; and a tread member having a threaded stud to fit said socket, substantially as described.

5. The combination with a shoe of cooperating means, consisting of clam ing members; each of said clamping mem ers being provided with a head; said members adapted to en age each other, and to be secured from disengagement, for clampin said sole between said heads; one of sai members having an internally threaded socket; and a tread member of relatively soft material having a headed stud imbedded therein and projecting therefrom, to engage threads in said socket.
