BAG" RACK.
Application filed August 29, 1925. Serial N. 53,383.
' This 4invention relates to an improved'bag rack'L especially designed to facilitate the handling of paper bags.
' Ih'e objectv ofthe invention is to providev a device. of this character which is of. simple @ther objects and advantages reside in certain novel-features of the. construction,y
ai'rangementr and' combination of parts which: will be hereinafter more fully de# scribed and particularly-pointed out in the appended claims,- referencebeing had tothe accompanying kdrawings forming a part of this'specification, and in which# Figure 1' isv al perspective View showing one embodiment oftheinvention, j y s Figure 2 is a fragm-entar .View of the upper portion thereof, parts eing shown 1n central vertical section and parts being shown in side elevation,
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the bag hangers showing the same in closed or bag holding position,
Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing the hangerl in open posi` t-ion Figure 5 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation showing the attaching means employed at the lower end of the standard of the rack,
Figure 6 is a. detail perspective view of a modified form of standard, f
Figure 7 is a view thereof in rear elevation Figure 8 is a view in horizontal section on line 8 8 of Figure 7, and
l Figure 9 is ak perspective view of the perforator employed to perforate the bags to adapt them for use with the rack.
Referring to the drawings and more especially to Figures 1-5 inclusive, the numeral 1 designates a standard tapering toward its upper .end and having a longitudinal channel 2 in its front face. The standard may be supported ink any convenient manner Ybut when mounted on shelvesit is preferablyattache'd to the wide base shelf by means of an attachinghinge Bprovided at its lower end and an attaching lug t at. its upper end,` the standard thus being` rearwardly inclined since the lugiy is secured'y to the narrower upper shelvingz while :thehinge 3. is. fastened toY theouter edge of the wid-er. end or base shelf. c v i Y A plurality of supportingrbracketst5 in the form of staplesam provided and are driven into the standard' or otherwise suit? ably fixedi thereto, the. bodyv portionsof'the brackets spanning the channel 2 and extend* ing parallel toeachfother. l
Hangers designated' generally at 6 are rovided and preferably are constructed ofpre` silient sheet metal. Each hanger comprises a body portion 7 having a rearwardly and downwardly bent hook` f8 at its upper 'end and also having its lower end foldedn up fiat Y against its front face and then extending laterally to form a .shelf 9intermediate its ends, the shelf having an upstandinglug: 10 at one cornerl of its outer end; Below the shelf a laterally extending pointed prongA 11 is fixed vto the ybody of the hanger. Adjacent itsupper en'df, the bracket has a pair of for,-- wardly projecting integral apetured ears 12 to which a curved holding plate 13 is pivoted by means of a pivot pin 14. A U-shaped latch member 15 straddles and is pivoted to the holding plate and is engageable with the lug 10 to releasably secure the holding plate in closed position.
In assembly the bags which are apertured adjacent'their tops are hung on the prongs 11, the prongs extendingthrough the apertures of the bag, and accidental displacement lof the bags is prevented by means of the holding plate y13 which hasvits rolled lower edge 13EL engaged with the bags to hold them on the prong. The plate 13 is held in en-` gagement with the prong and with the shelfV by means of the latch 15.
In Figures 6, 7v and 8, a modified form of standard is shown and may be stamped from sheet metal. As in the other form of stand- Vard there is a channel designated in this vembodiment at 20. lThe side portions of the The hangers are used with this forni of Standard ne with the other. Apertnred :ittneliing` lugs :24 are iiitegrnlhT formed with the hodv portion el the ehnnnel.
In Figure 9 n perforntor is: shown :ind is provided with the ineke to Vt'neilita te the 'lorinntion ol' the openinge in the linge n'hieh receive the prongs l0. The perforntor eo1nrises n linee 30 having :i illrnnie 3l npetnnding there'lroin .find carrying guide lnnelietfi 32 in which n perforntiner needle fl?) ie elidnhly fitted. An oiiernting lever ill ie inh ernmed on the tranne 3l :ind ie; operatively connected to the needle 33 eo that the needle f may he rendilv 'forced through :i poeh ot bags.
