Rnrnr-GE'RATOR BASKET.
AppncatinniedFebruary8. 1924,seri1 110,691,422. Renewed-october 9,'1926.
Cal section of a basket having the invention applied thereto; Figure 2 is a'plan view of the same with the cover removed; Figure 3 is an enlarged detail 'fragmentary sectional viewwith cover raised; Figure 4 is a similar view with cover closed; Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional detail perspective View of the top yedge of the basket, and Figure6 is a fragmentary detail planview of the top edge of the basket, partly broken away.
In these drawings the numeral 1v designates the body of the basket, woven from slab rattan and provided with a metal lining 2, an insulation being used between Vthe rattan basket and said metal lining and consisting of corrugated asbestos board 3Q The top 4 of the basket is provided with a central portion 5, which is thicker than its marginal portion 6, the latter having a lower packing strip 8 adapted to rest upon the peripheralv top edge of the basket. The metal lining 2 s'provided with a peripheral outwardly extending top flange 15 resting upon horizontal peripheral top'strips 14 of the basket body, and' with an upwardly and inwardly directed inner peripheral hollow- 4bead 9j of U-form in cross section, the
branches of which straddle the inner corner ofthe inner strip 14. This bead 9 while hollow, is protected against causal injury by having its lower portion extending below the top edge of the top strips 14 of the basket body and its upper portion sloping outwardly at a low incline tothe top flange 15 to which it is j oinedl at an obtuse angle. As a result also of the lesser 'projection of the bead 9 above the top edge of the basket, the
crack or interval between the cover 6 and the possible, to prevent the escape of cold airV from the basket, the metal lining is provided with the aforesaid bead 9 engaging the packing strip 8, and said bead is made to project not only upwardly but also horizontally inwardly of the basket to engage the shoulder 7 of the central portion of the cover, said bead having anupwardly yand outwardly rounded-or tapering inner peripheral walli9?. f
As shown in Figure 1 of thedrawings, as the cover isy placed upon the basket, the shoulder 7 engages the bead 9 and being au n pressed downwill closely engage the inner peripheral edge 9a of saidbead in a wedging "air tight manner, said wedging engagement being readily releasable by upward movement of the cover owing to the fact that the inner 'peripheral edge 9a of the bead has only a limited horizontal line or area of contact with said shoulder. top .flange ofthe lining is made by running a crimping tool around the liningV upon the horizontal peripheral inner edge of the basket, and is quite accurately horizontal, its engagement with the shoulder 7 of the cover being therefore the more perfect.
In forming the air space in the basket between the metal lining and the wickerwork body, the asbestos board 3 is arranged with the air `spaces 12 of the corrugations thereof This bead 9 of they vertically peripherally at the sides of the basket, said air spaces communicating at the top thereofvwith a peripheral air space 13 between said lining and the'horizontal peripheral `inner top strip 14 of the basket body, the hollow of the bead`9 communicating with said air space and the horizontal flange 15 of said lining and of which the bead 9 forms a part, closing the air space 13 at the top. t
The air spaces 12 of which there is a peripheral series around the sides of the basket, are closed at the bottom by the solid bottom 16 of the basket, and by the horizontal strip 17 of corrugated asbestos board overlying said solid bottom and underlying the bottom of the metal lining and providing horizontal air spaces 18 in series between these two bottoms.
I` claim 1. In a refrigerator basket, a body having horizontal peripheral top strips, a metal lining having a peripheral outwardly extendlng top flange resting upon said top strips and an upwardly and inwardly directed inner peripheral hollow bead of U-form in cross section, the branches of which straddle the inner corner of the inner of said top strips, the lower portion of said bead projecting below the top edge of said top strips and the upper port-ion thereof being joined to Sniil top 'flange ut mi obtuse angle, und u cover having' :i l'etlueetl marginal portion provide/l with a lowei peeking); strip resting upon Suid bend und a thicker Central por tion having n yettiezil peripheral shoulder having weclgng engagement- With said bead.
2. ln u refrigerator basket, u body having horizontal peripheral top Strips, n metal lining having; u peripheral outwardly extending top flung-e resting upon snitl top Strips, :intl un upwardly und inwardly directed inner peripheral hollow bend of Ufiolni in cross Section, the inneil ol sind top strips heilig epaieetl troni nitl lining by nn :Lii' Space communicating with the hollow olE said head :incl closed at the top oi smid tlange, and un insulation lining` loeutetl between Suid nwtnl lining; und the sides: olf the heelzet hotly :uid having a peripheral series of upstoncling :tir channels connnunieating with said un space.
In testimony whereof l :llllx my signature.
