CHECKERBOARD.

My invention'relates to checkerboards and particularly to folding checkerboards.

The invention has for its general object to provide a novel checker holding means incorporated in the board in a manner that' the foldable sections of the checker board when in the folded position house the checkers and prevent loss of the same.v

The nature of my invention and its distinguishingl features and advantages will clearl appear as the description proceeds.

Re erence is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention. i

Figure 1 is a plan view of a checkerboard embodying my invention, showing the same in the unfolded position for playing.

In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example, a board isV made in two folding half sections 410 united by any suitable hinge 11. At the opposite edge from the hinge any approved fastener means for the section may be provided, the means shown consisting of a short strip 12 having a fastener element 13 adapted to engage a mating fastener element 14 on theback of one of the sections 10.

Each half section 10 of the board is pro- Vided on three sides with a channel 15, the

adjacent ends of the Channels being closed by members 16. The grooving'or channeling of the boards at three sides provides for 40 holding the checkers indicated at A in playing the ginie. VVhen the sections are folded one on the other as shown in Figure 3 the channels jointly serve to house the. checkers which are partly accommodated in the channel of one section and partlyin the channel of the other section.

I Would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spiritV of the invention as delined in the appended claim: Z fl lVhat I claim is:

' A checkerboard formed of two hinged sections each having a playing field divided into a plurality of rows of spaces to receive men and intervening spaces, each of said KSU sections on three sides of the playing field of said section having a channel extending continuously about said three sides for receiving checkers pertaining to the field of the section, the channel of one section being opposite the channel of the other and corresponding therewith, the two Channels when the sections are folded one upon the other jointly forming a storage Chamber, the channel of the each section partly accommodating the checkers and the two jointly accommodating all the checkers of the two fields in i the single storage chamber. i-
