Description

K Aug' 30-1927' H. F. w. WEGNER PLOWSHARE Filed May 2l. 1926 Fig 1.
Patented ug. 30, V1927.

PLOWSHARE,
Application filed may 21, 1926, Serial No. 116,607, and in Germany `iepternber 30, i925.
T he attachment of plowshares to the plow wherein the share is of V section and is slid on to the correspondingly formed lower portion of the plow-breast, is known. The
mode of attaching a plowshare of V section to a plow-breast, which forms the subject of the present invention differs by the provision of a groove and feather connection from the known mode of attachment. The plowshare is slid on in the direction of the working pressure, and at the end of the fitting groove an abutment is provided, which limits the sliding-on displacement of the share and provides same with a firm seating.
An example of the subject of the invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing, in which z- Fig. l is a side elevation of a plow-breast and attached plowshare.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation on a larger scale of the lower portion of the plow-breast with the share not quite brought home to its seating, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on 25 line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The part a of V section and provided with a cutting edge al, may be directly attached as a plowshare to the plow-breast b of the plow or can be attached as a' cutter to a so plowshare body portion secured to the plowbreast. For the purpose of securing the share a, the plow-breast b,- or the. plowshare body portion as the case may be, is shouldered down to a Wedge section at its lower :is border d and is formed on one or both sides with a longitudinal groove c. Along the inside of the top of the V section share a is provided with a rib e, which easily lits in ythe groove c. At the rear end of the wedge section border d, the groove c is closed and at the rear end of the share a the rib is interrupted, .so that, when the V section of share a is thrust home on the wedge section border (l of the plow-breast b, or on an additional share body portion, the rib e sliding longitudinally in the groove c, the rear end f of the rib e ahuts firmly against the end g 0f the groove 0 and prevents further displacement of the share in the direction of the working pressure. By displacing the share in the reverse direction it can be easily and readily removed from the plow-breast for sharpening 0r replacement. l
rlChe present invention is applicable to the shares of potato diggers, cultivators and the like as well as to plows proper.
l. A plowshare comprising a body member having a lower portion of reduced thickness extending from heel to point thereof, one side of said portion being provided with a longitudinal groove extending from the point of said portion and terminating adjacent to the heel thereof, and a cutting member having a grooved portion slidably mounted on said reduced portion of the body member in the direction of the line of draft, said cutting member being provided with a rib engaging the groove in the reduced portion of the body member.
2. A plowshare comprising a body member having a lower portion wedge-shaped in cross-section, said portion being provided with a. longitudinal recess in one of its sides extending from its forward end to a point near its rear end and terminating at the latternamed end in a shoulder, and a vcutting member adapted to be slid onto and olf said body member at its forward end, said cutting member having in its upper part a longitudinally extending V-shaped groove to receive and engage the wedge-shaped portion of the body member, the walls of said groove being of substantially equal height and one of said walls being provided with a. longitudinally extending rib to engage the said recess in the wedge-shaped portion of the body member, the rear end of the rib terminating in advance of the rear end of the cutting member and adapted to abut 90 against the aforesaid shoulder.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
