UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RALPH C. YAGER AND GEORGE L. YAGEB, OF OAKLAND,- GALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOBS '10 YAGER SHEET METAL COMPANY, 01' OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA, A COPABTNERSEIP.
Loom vmmm'roa.
Application fled June 19, 1926. Serial No. 117,021.
Our invention relates to improvements in louver ventilators, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of our invention is to provide a louver ventilator which is constructed to permit a maximum flow of air therethrough, yet preventing rain, etc., from gaining access to the louver, and in which the exterior portion of the louver lies substantially flush with the exterior surface of the walls.
A further object of our invention is to provide a device of the type described, which is extremely simple in construction and which may be secured in place before the plaster is applied.
Further objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device, and
Figure 2 is a section along the line 2-2 of Fi ure 1.
in carrying out our invention we provide a casing 1 havin a beaded end 2 and an outwardly extending flange 3 at the other end thereof. The distance between the flange 3 and the head 2 is the same as the thickness of the wall in which the device is disposed.
At the top and the bottom of the casing 1, we dispose channels 4 and 5 which have a plurality of openings 6 and 7 therein, by which the device may be secured to the wall. The channels 4 and5 are Secured to the frame-work of the wall and position the flanges 3 a sufficient distance in front of the frame-work to provide space for receiving the customary plaster, or other finishing.
At the outer end of the casing 1, we secure a. cover 8, the cover having flanges 9, which are bent over the flange 3, and over the outer sides of the channels 4 and 5. The main body portion 10 of the cover is spaced inwardly from the rim 110i the cover. The portion 10 is provided with a plurality of parallel cuts, and the portions of metal dis.
osed between the cuts are bent along center ines so as to position the lower edges 12 of the bent sections 13 flush with the rim 11, and to position the upper edges 14 a sufficient distance back of the rim 11 to provide relatively wide openings 15 for the air.
Between the cover 8 and the flange 3 we dis ose a screen 16.,
rom the foregoing description of the various parts of the device, the operation thereof may be readily understood. The ventilator is preferably secured in place in the wall before the exterior or interior finish is applied. Fastening means is driven through the openings 6 and 7 for securing the ventilator in place. The channels 4 and 5 receive the exterior finish and therefore position the cover 8 flush with the exterior surface of the wall. -Thebent section-13 together with the screen 16 prevent; any for eign matter from ining accessitito the interior of the venti ator, yet at the same time permits the free flow of air through the ventilator. Y
It will be noted from Figure 2 that the ends 12 are provided with reinforcing ribs. The device has been designed primarily to provide a ventilator which has the maximum openings therein shielded from rain and. the like and yet which lies flush with the exterior surface of the wall.
We claim I A device of the type described, comprising a casing; a cover secured to said casing, said cover avmg a portion thereof spaced inwardly from the lane of said cover, said portion having a p urality'of parallel cuts therein for forming sections said sections being bent on a. line midway between the cuts, so that portions of sai sections project in front of the inwardly spaced por tion of the cover and portions of the sections signatures.
