JULIUS LUNDBLAD, OF JELLY, CALIFORNIA.
FRUIT-PICKER S GLOVE.
Application led September 27, 1926. Serial No. 138,007.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in gloves and has for its prniary object to provide a glove that is especially constructed for use in the picking of small fruit such as berries, plums, cherries, and also olives and the like, the glove being equipped at the side of the palm portion with a receptacle so as to set the articles after the same have been picked by the fingers of the person wearing the glove.
A further object of the invention is to provide a glove that is equipped with a receptacle of such a nature and so associated with the glove body as not to interfere with l5 the picking operation. f
Other objects will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprising the novel form of glove hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts in both of the views:`
Figure l is a full size perspective of glove constructed in accordance with the present invention, the same being disclosed as actually associatedwith the hand of the wearer, and
Figure 2 is a side perspective of the glove,
.30 per se. Now
drawing wherein there is disclosed but one embodiment of the present invention. 5
designatesk a glove proper consisting of a main body constructed generally similar to workmens gloves and having finger andA thumb receiving units G and 7, respectively. n The fore and index finger receiving unit as well as the thumb receiving unit are of relatively short dimensions and are open at their ends in order to permit said-fore and index linger as well as the thumb of the`Y berry picker to project therethrough as clearly indicated in Figure 1 in order that these fingers may be properly employed in Y the picking operation. y
Suitably secured to the palm portion of the glove body at the edge thereof remote from the thumb unit 7 is a depending pouch- 8 of the same material as the glove. The small finger receiving unit 9 is constructed for entirely enclosing the little linger of the having particular reference to the berry picker and the material forming said little finger receiving unitis stitched4 to the (upper edge of the pouch 8 so as to assist in 55 maintaining the pouch in vertical position during the picking operation. The opposite upper edge 'of the, pouch is also secured to the alm portion of the Glove body alongside of the thumb receiving unit 7 by a web G0 lO -that is preferably integral with the Inaterial forming said pouch as also disclosed in Figure l.
rThe pouch 8 and the glove body attaching end of the web l0 are preferably secured to 65 the glove body by stitching as indicated by the reference characters ll and l2 in Figure Q. f
There is preferably, although notabsolutely necessarily arranged within the pouch 8 a metallic receptacle 13 that provides a rigid lining for the interior of the pouch and for preventing-the material forming the pouch from becoming soiled by the contact of the berries therewith.
It will bey obvious that as the fruit is picked'by'the exposed fingers of the berry picker the same may be immediately dropped fromthe fingers and the same will be effectively caught within the pouch 8. As soon as the pouch has become filled, the fruit or other material therein maybe conveniently dumped into a larger receptacle carried by the picker or disposed upon the ground. y 85 In view of the foregoing description which when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing .it will at once be apparent that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and efficient form of glove that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated and even though I have herein shown and described but a single embodiment of the invention, and this embodiment consisting of certain detail structural elements it is nevertheless to be-un" derst-ood that other embodiments may be had Vand that departures may be made from the structure disclosed in the drawing without affecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim. s
' Having thus described the invention, what I claim is f In a handl appliance for use by fruit pickers, :t glove .including u Wrist band, a body portion connected With said band, and individuel finger stalls connected to the body portion, the sta-ll for the little finger being,l complete and enclosed at its outer end, the stalls for the remainingl lingers and thumb being open to allow the latter to pass through and beyond the open end, an open top collection and receiving pouch having a portion of the top edge connected With the little finger stall and palm portion of said body, and a connecting and Supporting web connected with the upper end of the pouch and with the palm and thumb stall.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
J ULIUS LUNDBLAD.
