MODEL YACHT.
Application filed November 20, 1926. Serial No. 149,743.
This invention relates to model or toy yachts and particularly to a novel construction which will be light, durable and rigid, and which may be built by unskilled labor or the parts factory made and assembled by such labor.
The above and other objects of the invention will be more fully disclosed in the following description and exemplified in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the yacht, the deck planking being removed.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the yacht taken on the line 22 of Figure 1, the deck planking being shown in place.
Figure 3 is a transverse section through the yacht taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1, the deck planking being shown in place.
Figure at is a face view of one of the cross frames or ribs.
Figure 5 is a side view of the keel member.
In carrying out the invention 6 represents a keel member, which is preferably formed of laminated three ply wood commonly known as veneering, which extends the longitudinal length of the yacht and is provided with the downwardly projecting keel extension 7 to which is secured the balance weights 8.
The keel member 6 is provided with a plurality of apertures or recesses 9 which serve to lighten the structure as well as to provide an effectual means for locking other members of the structure to the keel member.
A plurality of cross frames or ribs are provided and are locked to the keel member 6 in the following manner. Midway be tween the ends of cross frames 10 and at the top and bottoms thereof are oppositely disposed notches 11 and 12. In order to assemble the cross frames to the keel, they are i serted slant wise into the apertures 9 an then projected in an upright position the notches 11 and 12 engaging, respectively,
By the above construction it will be obvi- 54 ous that an effective interlocking frame work for the yacht will be formed.
. A transom or stern member 16 is provided with a groove 17 into which the rear end V edge of the keel member 6 is projected.
After the frame is assembled as described the side walls or plankings 18, the bottom walls or plankings 19, and deck wall planking 20 may be nailed or glued in place, these parts being nailed to the cross frames 10 and to the keel member 6 as desired.
By the above describedconstruction it will be obvious that a very simple novel and eflicient yacht may be built up by unskilled persons and that lightness of structure may be obtained in this manner, thus avoiding the necessity of gouging the hull out from a solid block of wood, as is very frequently done in present practice.
Having thus described I claim is: v
A toy yacht construction comprising a keel member formed of one piece of sheet material provided with a plurality of apertures; a plurality of cross frame members provided with oppositely. disposed top and bottom notches adapted to engage with the top and bottom edges of said keel apertures; a transom member resting adjacent the rear edge of said keel member; and wall members adapted to form the body of the yacht formed of sheet material secured to said keel members, cross frame and transom member.
