GAS HEATED AND RADIATING ELEMENT.
Original application filed August 8, 1925, Serial No; 48,941, and in Great Britain December 9, 1924. Divided and this application filed October 20, 1926. Serial No. 142,987.
This invention relates to apparatus of the kind in which vertically arranged gas heating elements are employed to radiate heat and it has for its object to provide an improved form of gas heating element-for such purpose. 7
To this end the metal heating plate employed is thermally insulated from then];-
paratus by being fixed to insulating sup-.
10 [ports such as a frame of refractory material of channel shape in cross section, the whole forming a combustion chamber which in vertical cross section is rectangular and the arrangement being such that the plate is as far as possible uniformly heated, the heat being radiated from the surface opposite to that exposed to the heating agent.

The effect of restricting the outlet 21 is to ensure that the plate 20 near the top is properly encountered by the hot gases and so obtain a better ormore uniform heatradiation. In the present instance, the face-plate 20 is formed with projections 21 extending into the combustion chamber for increasing the radiating surface thereof.
The heat-refractory frame comprising the sides 21' and 21 is shown received or retained between two uprights 22 forming part of the burner 23. Each burner is connected at 24 to a return tube 25, an extension 26 of which is arranged to fit telescopically within a mixing tube 27 for a known purpose.
What I claim is 1. In apparatus of the character described, a heat radiating element embodying a vertically arranged metal plate. heating means for said plate, means support-ed'on said heating means and supporting said radiatinn element free of metallic contact with said heating means. comprising a frame of refractory material marginally engaging said radiating element and therewith forming a combustion chamber adjacent said heating means.

In apparatus of the character described, a heat radiating element embodying avertically arranged metal plate. heating means for saidplate, means supported on said heating means and supporting said radiating element free of metallic contact with said heating means, comprising a frame of refractory material having back plate and edge strip portions confronting and marginally engaging said radiating element so as therewith to form a. combustion chamber adjacent said heating means permitting gradual escape of burnt gases.
3. In apparatus such as herein referred to, a gas heated and radiating element comprising a horizontal burner, a pair of end uprights thereon, a frame of refractory material comprising three vertical sides sup ported upon the burner between said uprights, one of said sidesbeing formed with.
an overhanging ledge. and a metal plate carried by the refractory frame to form therewith a combustion chamber having a restricted outlet for burnt gases at the top provided by the overhanging ledge of one of said vertical sides, substantially as described;
