This invention relates to window-pane holding means,l and particularly to such a means adapted for use in connection with metall coal chute windows.
The-object of my invention is the provision of means of the character described, which `is simple andinexpensive inits construction, is adapted to permit an easy and rapid replacement of window panes when they become broken, and is compact4 in form.

In carrying out the invention, a channel 5 is provided in the inner side of the clo sure member 2 marginally entirely around the space formed by the openings 3 and a channel 7 is also provided lengthwise in the inner side of each 'cross-bar 6, which divide vthe closure member into the openings 3. v
The free edge wall of the channel 5' and both edge walls of the cross-bar channels 7 are preferably turned outwardly with relation to the respective channels to form seats 8 at the inner side of the member 2 against which the respective adjacent marginal edge portions of the panes 4 seat. The other flange of the frame 9 projects inwardly relative to the vframe and bears against the respective panes 4 in opposition to the seats 8 formed by the outwardly turned edge wall of the channel 5.
The adjacent edges of the several panes l are spaced in opposit-ion'to the cross-bars preferablyvof sheet metal.' The outer end edgescf the leg portions of the channel str ip's 10 are turned outwardly over 'the adjacent marginal edge portions of the respective panes 4. and in opposition to the seats 8 of the cross-bars 6.
An important function of the channels 5 and 7 is to provide recesses for receiving putty or other suitable sealing compound when it is desired to prevent the passage of wind and rain through the window around the edges of the panes.
It is evident that I have provided a compact, rigid, durable and ineXp-ensive'window pane securing means for use in connection particularly with metal closure members, which means is composed of fewv parts, holds the window-panes securely toV the closure member, and permits of an easy and rapid replacement of the panes when breakage occurs.
I wish it understood that my invention is not limited to any specific construction, arrangement or 1"'orm of the parts, as it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms without departing from the spirit of the claims.
Having' thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A closure member having an opening therein and a marginal channel around the opening' with the edge wall oit' the free leg ot' the channel forming a seat for a window pane, a. window pane holdingl frame of angle iron form in cross-section having one flange projecting edgewise into the channel and its other flange adapted to grip a pane in opposition to the free edge wall of the channel, said channel being of a width so as to permit the iirst named flange of the angle iron frame to be adjusted laterally of the channel, and means for detachably securing the frame to the closure member.
2. A closure member having a plurality oi window openings tieren and having integral cross-bars separating the openings from each other, said member having its inner side formed marginally around said openings with a channel and having the inner sides of its cross-bars channelled, a window pane for each opening seating against the free edge wall of the marginal channel and the adjacent free edge wall of the crossbar channel, a trame of angle iron form in cross-section having an inwardly turned Hange opposing the seating of the panes against the free edge walls o the channels and having its other flange projectling edgewise into the marginal channel l which channel faces rearwardl of the bod the free leg oil the channel forming a window pane seat, a window pane holding angie iron vtrame having one flange projectingY edgewise into the interior oit the channel, and means to secure the trame in position, the channel being oi" a size to permit lateral movement of the ange in the channel, and
to receive a sealing agent.
e. ln a closure member, a body having an opening therein and a hollow cross-bar eX- tcnding across the opening, a pair of window panes in the opening having spaced adjacent edges with the space between the edges in register with the interior of the hollow cross bar, nd a lillermember engaged with the inner faces of the panes and with said edges thereof and having a part spaced ;rom the interior of the cross bar, so to receive a sealing agent in and between the interior of the cross bar and the liller member.
