SUPPORT FOR COLLAPSIBLE CONTAINER TUBES.

The present invention relates to improvements 1n supports for collapsible container tubes, and has reference more particularly to animprovement over the device coveredin Patent #l,568,868, granted to me on-January 5, 1926.
One of the important objects of the presentinvention is to provide means adapted for cooperation with the neck or discharge end of a collapsible paste tube whereby the tube will be held in position in the holder against accidental displacement therefrom.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a substantially concaved closure cap which is adapted for disposition over the discharge end or mouth of the tube for preventing any possibility of the contents of the tube being wasted.
A further object is to provide a key which has its intermediate portion slotted to receive the closed end of the tube, and around which the tube is to be wound or rolled as the contents are discharged from the tube, a handle being formed on each end of the key so as to permit the same to be actuated from either the left or right side of the holder.
A further-object is to provide a device of the above mentioned character wherein the holder is provided with means for supporting tooth brushes thereon, thus providing a compact device which may be readily and easily attached to any suitable support, and will not occupy any considerable amount of space.
A still further object-is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong, and durable, and further well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawmg.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved device.

Figure 4 is a detail secti al View through a wall. holder is provided with supporting legs 10- the closure cap showing the same disposed over the mouth or discharge end of the tube, and also illu;-.:trating the locking cam or eccentric in engagement with the threaded neck of the tube.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally the holder, the same being preferably formed from a single blank of sheet metal material, the holder including the upturned side walls 2 and the bottom or end wall 3. The bottom or end wall 3 is provided with a centrally located substantially. diamond shaped opening 4 through which is adapted to extend the threaded neck 5 of the collapsible tube 6, it being understood of course that the usual screw threaded cap provided for the threaded neck of the tube is initially removed.
The side walls 2 are provided with registering longitudinally extending slots-such as are shown at 7 and through which is adapted to extend the key which is associated with the closed end of the collapsible tube for extruding the paste from the tube in the manner well known in the art. The specific construction of the key will be hereinafter more fully described.
An extension 8 is formed on the upper end of the holder, and the same is provided with an opening 9 for the reception of a. nail or any other appropriate fastening means for securing the holder in a suspended position on any suitable support, preferably The lower forward endof the which engage the wall andhold the lower end of theholder in spaced relation thereto in the manner as is clearly set forth in my prior Patent #1,5(i8,868.
The upper ends of the side walls 2 are disposed laterally as at 11, and these lateral extensions are provided with the notches 12 to provide a means for supporting a tooth brush adjacent each side of the holder.
The key forming a part of the present invention is designated generally by'the numeral 13 and the same is preferably formed of a single piece of wire, the intermediate portion of which is flattened as indicated at 14. The flattened portion is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 15 for the reception of the closed end of the paste tube 6', and it is of course understood that the iii) flattened portion lat of the key is wound or rolled around the closed end of the tube in order to provide the necessary means for collapsing the tube in order to extrude the paste from the mouth of the tube.
The ends of the wire key extend through the longitudinally arranged slots 7 in the respective sides 2, and each end of the wire is so bent as to form an actuating handle 16. By forming a pair of handles on the respective ends of the wire key, the same may be actuated from either the left or right hand side of the holder.
The manner in which the key cooperates with the closed end of the tube for dispensing the contents of the tube has already been more fully described in my prior patent, above referred to, and a thorough description thereof in the present application is therefore thought unnecessary.
- An angular foot 17 extends laterally from the intern'iediate portion of the piece of metal from which the supporting legs are formed, and pivotally secured at one end to the angular foot as at 18 is a strip of metal 19; The outer free end of this strip has formed thereon a substantially concaved closure cap 20 which is adapted to be disposed or'er the mouth or discharge end of the collapsible tube. 6, in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 4 of the drawings, so that the contents of the tube is prevented from being accidentally discharged, thereby eliminating any waste. A depending lug or finger 21'is formed at the side of the strip 19 to provide a means whereby the pivoted closure cap may be swung into an operative or inoperative position. The strip ofmetal 19 and the closure cap associated therewith are formed preferably of spring metal.
For the purpose of locking the collapsible tube in position in the holder against acci-' dental displacement therefrom, I provide a locking cam or eccentric 22 which is pivotallv supported on the bottom 3 as at 23, the
curved edge portion of the pivoted locking cam or eccentric being sharpened for cooperation with the threads formed in the neck of the paste tube in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 4. This locking plate is also provided with a depending-finger such as is shown at 24 at its outer free end whereby the same may be readily and easily acproper position in the holder and it is obvious that when the finger 24 is actuated so that the pivoted cam or eccentric is moved out of engagement with the threaded neck, the tube may be easily removed from the holder for the purpose of replacing an empty tube with a new one.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, that I have provided a support for a collapsible tube which is very simple in construction, and may therefore be manufactured at a low cost.
The sim licity in which the various parts of the device are arranged enables thesame to be readily and easily actuated so that the pivoted closure cap may be swung away from the mouth of the tube in order that any desired quantity of paste may be discharged from the tube when the key is rotated by turning either of the handles which extend from the respective sides of the holder.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A paste tube holder of the class described including a bottom having an opening formed therein for receiving the threaded neck of a paste tube, and a non-yielding member pivotally mounted on the bottom and having an arcuate edge eccentrically disposed in relation to the pivot for forming a cam edge for bitin engagement with the neck so that the, same may be held against accidental displacement.
