The present invention relates-to loom-shuttles and moreparticularly to a thread re.- tainer and'eye for the threadingislot."
It is an object of this invention to provide an improved shuttle eye andthreadretainer I in a: shuttle to permit easy threading andprevent dethreading of theshuttle eye. For this purpose two cylindricalguides disposediat right angles to each otherand coinmunicat ing w'ith the threading slot are provided."
One off the y guides, hereinafter. referred to asqthe shuttle eye, is disposed 1H atransverse horizontal passage in'thelshuttle, while the other guide, or thread-retainer, is placed in a vertical;passage-,communicating with the horizontal passage.
The invention Will be more fully under stood byreterence to the following specification and'the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a shuttle provided with a thread-eye of the type embody} ing the present invention;
Figure ,2 is a planview ot'the-shuttle havinga thread-retainer;- )1
Figure 3 isva top view of the thread-eye;
Figure 4 is a front View of the retainer} I Figure? is aside View ot'the retainer and Figure 6 isa section on the line 6 6 of Figure 1.
which permits ea'sythreading but prevents dethreading of the shuttle. v
The thread retainer 14 has an axial thread passage 16 extending throughout its length and arradial slot 17 communicating with the passage 16. l The lower end of the retainer 14- is cut away to the diametrical plane through the slot 17 as shown in Figures 4 and 5, an inclined face 18 being formed on that side of the retainer'which is adjacent the passage 13 when the retaineris placed in the shuttle; The retaining guide is pro-' vided withone or more lips 19 which serve to position the guide in the shuttle and prevent its relative rotation with respect to the shuttler In the refer-red form oithe invention the The shuttle, eye has; an axialhore or thread passagej20 extending throughoutqits;
length and aradial slot 21' communicating I with the tattoo. The slot 21 parallels the ee. c;
axis of the passage 20 for a is'hort distance toa' point'at whichit is substantially; tangent to an enlarged radialgopening22 inthe ey T The continuation 23 of the slot 21 Visvalso I 7 s,

It willbeseen that a tongue 24e'isthus' providedfthe purpose otwhich is to prevent radial displacement {of the thread after the eye has been threaded. The
eyeis further provided Witlra lip' 25 to} retain it in its proper the threading slot-11, 7 V In assembling the shuttle eye and retainer; the parts 1 1 and 15 are inserted in the passages 1-2 and 13 respectively, lips 19 ment with the threading slot "11 and retain the guides in those positions. Theshuttleis, threaded byhand, the thread being inserted 1n the slot lliafter which a slight puil on position with respect; to 1 the projecting and 25 serving to positionthe guides to bring the radials'lots 17 and 21 into'alignthe thread will cause'it to enter theguide.
are cut parallel to the passages 12and 13 rea 4 guides are in alignment withthethrea'ding spectively so that the radial "slots in the slot whenthe parts have been assembled and the thread can be readily drawn into the guides 14 and-15. The slot in the eye 15 is of such form that after the threadhasbeen drawn into the eye it cannotbe withdrawn through the slot 21, thus insuring retention shuttle is in motion.
Although the invention has beendescribed in detail, it is obvious that itmay be modiof the thread in ,theshuttle eye while the tied, Itis therefore iigt intendedthatthef invention be limited to thefeact construction illustrated but includes such changes as come within the scope of the appended ,what' is claimed secured by Letters Patent is:
I 1. In a shuttle havi 'ig a hand threading' v slot-,a vertical threadpassage, a
claims. a t Having thus described the invention, as new and desired to be horizontal thread passage communicating with and. iiitersecting said vertical passage, said threading slot intersecting each of the thread passages in a plane parallel to the axis thereof,
cylindrical thread guides, one in each of said passages, sa d vertical guide having a radial 1' slot in alignment a with the threading slot, and said horizontal guide being provided I with a tortuous slot the ends of which are in alignment with a common lel'nentbf the guide" and'with the threading slot, whereby ,det-hreading' of the shuttle is prevented.
2. Athread eye for shuttles comprising amember having an axial bore, asubstantially circular radial opening intermediate the ends ofsaid member, and ai'adial slot connecting each end of said member with said opening,each of said slots being tangent tO SEtlCl opening but at dif'erent points on its circumference.
In a shuttle having .a hand-threading slot, a, vertical thread passage, a horizon-- tal thread passage communicating with and intersecting said vertical passage, said threading slot intersecting each of the thread passages ina plane parallel to the axis thereof, thread guides in each of said passages, said vertical guide having a radial slot in alignment with the threading slot and a cutaway portion at its lower end in communication with the radial slot and disposed ad acent the horizontal passage s id cutaway portion having an inclined. upper edge disposed'belowthe upper edge of the guide in the horizontal passage and said horizontal guide being provided with a tor- 7 common elements ber.
tuous slot, the ends of which are in align.
ment with a common element of the guide and with the threading slot, the lower end i. also being disposed'adjacent the cutaway portion of the vertical guide, whereby dethreading I of the shuttle s prevented. v 4. A thread eye for shuttles comprising a cylindrical member having an axial bore,
a substantially circular radial opening intermed ate the ends of said member, and a radial slot connecting each end of said mem a cylindrical member having an axial bore,
a substantially circular radial opening intermediate the ends of said member, and a radial slot connecting each end of said inem her with said opening, each of said slots be ing tangent to said opening but at different points on its circumference, the ends of said slots being disposed substantially along of the cylindrical int-n1- 6. A thread eye for shuttles, comprising a cylindrical member having an axial bore,
a substantially circular radial'opening iiitermediate the ends of said member, and a radial slot connecting each end of said memberwith said'opening, each ofsaid slots be ing tangent to said opening but at diii'erent I points on its circumference, the ends ot iaid slots being disposed substantially along CQl1'l-- mon elements oftlie cylindrical member and one of said slotsbeing disposed substantially along elements of the member throughout itslengthp. v 1
