A crepe paper napkin made in accordance with the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawing for the purpose of illustration. The napkin has its torn edges colored alternately with two colors 1 and 2 confined substantially to the width of the margin of irregularities in the torn edges.

By this method one or more colors are applied to an elongated sheet of crepe paper by rolls having peripheral ridges dipping intoa colored liquid and contacting with the paper along longitudinal and transverse lines.
The width of the edge coloring is confined substantially to the width of the mar- '40 gin of irregularities of the torn sheet,- and it LS also preferred that the edges be colored alternately with difl'erent dyes, as shown in the drawing.
