.NONREFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Application 'led November` 12, 1926. Serial No. 148,010.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles and has for its primary object to provide a bottle that is equipped internally with the member similar in shape to the cross sectional shape of the bottle and havinga snug fit within the bottle, means being provided between the interior of the bottle and said member to permit the` same to slide toward the neck of the bottle when the contents thereof is being emptied, but to prevent the return ofthe member when the bottle is stood upon its end. Y
By reason of an invention of this character it would be impossible for any one to force the plate member downwardly to the bottom of the bottle after the same has moved to any extent whatever from the bottom so that obviously the bottle could not be conveniently refilled and even though it were filled, the purchaser thereof oould readily note the position of the plate member and determine the fact that the bottle contains the original or a substitute content.
One of the main obj ects of the invention is to provide a non-rei'illable bottle of this character that is of simple construction and that will operate for the purposes intended under varying conditions.
Other objects will become apparentV as thel nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprising the novel form, combination, and arrangement .of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters e indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
` Figure l is aview partly in side elevation and partly in vertical cross `section of the invention as applied to a iiat type bottle.
Figure 2 is a transverse section thereof` Figure 8 is a view similar to Figure 1 disclosing the invention applied to a rounded bottle, and
Figure 4 is a transverse section thereof. First having reference to Figures l and 2, 5 designates a generally conventional design of flat sided bottle formed at one end with the usual neck 6. In carrying out my invention the inner surface of one side wall of the-bottle 5 is formed with inwardly proj ecting spaced lugs 7, the lower sides of which are of tapering formation from the inner' surface of the bottle to the outer ends of said lugs as clearly indicated in Figure l.
Disposed within the bottle is a plate member 8` preferably of thev same material of which the bottle is composed and being of a shape similar to that of the cross sectional area of the'bottle. This plate 8 is of such dimension as to permit the same to slide vertically 'within the bottle andy to tilt to a very minor degree within the bottle-as i-ndicated .by the dotted full lines in Figure l, but. yet so as to prevent the plate from being turned within the bottle. v
At the edge of the plate 8 adjacent the end wall formed with the teeth 7 there is provided a vertical slot 9 within which the teeth 7 project so as to permit the plate to move past the teeth in an obvious manner.
It will at once be appreciated that the initial position of the plate 8 is within "the lower end of the bottle so that the bottle may be properly filled. However, when the bottle is tilted so as to remove the contents therefrom, the plate 8 will automatically Alugs 7 similar to the lugs 7 in the form of the invention shown in Figures 1 and 2. In this instance the plate 8 is of circular formation and the same is also formed at its` edge with a notch 9 to permit the movement Y the invention as consisting of certain detail Structural elements it is nevertheless to be understood thatsome changes maybe made therein Without alecting the spirit and Scope or the appended claims.
Having thus described the invent-ion, what I claim as nev7 und desire to leecure by Lettere Patent s 1. In combination with a bottle, a platelilze member arranged horizontally within the bottle and being of a shape similar to the croeeeectional shape of ,the bottle, said plate adapted for slideble and slightly tiltable niovement7 the plate beingadapted to move toward the neck of the bottle When the contente thereof is being emptied, and cooperating means between the plate and the inner' Wall of the bottle to prevent the movement of the plate in a reverse direction.
2. In combination With a bottle,y a platelike member Arranged horizontally within the bottle land being ot' d shape similar to the cross sectional Shape .of Vhebottle .eeid plate adapted t'or sliduble and j.slightly tiltable movement, the plate being` adapted to move toward the neck ot the bottle vhen the contente thereof Vis being-emptied, und co- 1 operating means between'the plate and the inner'vvell of the bottle to prevent the movement of the pleten atreverse direction, Suid means comprising :t series ot vertically spaced teeth formed on the imierxvell of the bottle, the teeth being tapered et their under eide, the plate adjacent the teeth being :termed with e slot in ite edge, AWtl'iin which Said teeth project, the inner edge or the slot engaging the upper fece oli' one ofthe teeth When the bottle ie set in en upright position.
v In testimony whereof atix my signature.
,MARY/ANNE HERMES.
