UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ORSON W. KELLOGG, OF FOND DU LAO, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO MILFORD VAN DRESAR, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STREET-SWEEPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [63,784, dated May 25, 1875; application filed April 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORSON W. KELLOGG, of Fond du Lac, county of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented an Improved StreetSweeping Machine.
Thefollowing description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawings hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification, wherein are set forth the nature and principles of the invention, by which the same may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts thereof as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.
My invention relates to that class of machines which are made use of for sweeping the streets; and the nature thereof consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, in which corresponding parts are designated by similar letters, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the machine with my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
A designates the broom-frame, which is attached to the sides of the machine by the straps a in such a manner that the forward part of the frame may be adjusted at any convenient height from the ground. Chains b are attached to the rear portion of said frame, and to the jointed rakeH, which may be lifted upward from the position shown in Fig. 1, and
led over pulleys B to the Windlass 0, upon which they are wound when it is desired to raise the broom D, the shaft of which has its hearings in said frame.
The broom is rotated by the pulley e upon the driving rl eel, which is connected by an open band with the pulley e. The gears f upon the shaft F transmit the motion through the medium of the gears f f to the gear f upon the broom-shaft. A sheave on the said shaft F imparts rotary motion through the medium of the open band 9 to the shaft k,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I i have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of March, 1875.
ORSON V. KELLOGG.
