HAIR BRUSH WITH COMB Filed Sept. 16, 1926 INVENTOR Patented July 26, 1927. i}
UNITED STATE ABE MELTZER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAIRBRUSH WITH COMB.
Application filed September 18, 1926. Serial No. 135,743.
This invention relates to a combined comb and brush, and one of its objects is to provide such article with a closed receptacle for toilet articles, whereby said article is rendered time, labor, andspace saving, and is thus particularly advantageous during traveling, camping, etc.
Another object is to provide such article with means for mounting a comb thereon and demounting it therefrom, to permit separate use of the comb-member if desired, and to permit separate, etticient, and convenient cleansing of the comb-member.
Another object is to provide such article with means for mounting the brush element thereon and demounting it therefrom, for additional and separate uses of the brushelement, and for efficient and convenient cleansing of the brush-element.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the article.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the article.
Fig. 3'is a rear plan viewof the article, as it appears when opened up, to show its rece )tacle.
The article 1 comprises the usual body 2, and a handle 3. Along the longitudinal centre line of the top of the body 2 is formed a dove-tailed groove 4 which has its wide part at its bottom, and the comb 5 is provided with a correspondingly dovetailed back 6, whereby the comb is capable of being slipped longitudinally into the groove 4: and to be removed therefrom when desired. The top of the body is level at 7 adjacent to the comb 5, and from there bevels downwardly at either side, forming the sloping tops 8 for the brush-members 9. In each sloping top 8 is formed a dove-tailed channel 10 as shown, and each brush-member 9 is provided with an auxiliary back 11 which is correspondingly configurated, so as to slip longitudinally into the channel 10, in the manner shown, and to be removable whendesired. V
The body 2 and handle 3 are made hollow, as shown at 12 Fig. 3, and the latter are provided with a cover 13 hinged to the body at 14, whereby said hollow portion serves as a receptacle for holding a set of various suitable toilet articles 15, as illustrated, and the receptacle is closed by swinging the cover 13 thereover and looking it by means of a spring-snap 16 upon the cover engaging a button 17 secured to the body 2. The rear face of the cover 13, which thus serves as a brush-back is preferably provided with an inset mirror 18 for convenient use. s From the extremity of the cover 13 projects upwardly a wall 19, which serves as a closure for the end ofthe receptacle, as viewed in Fig. 2, and the upper rim 20 of said wall serves to lock the comb-back 6 and brushbacks 11 in their operative positions, when the comb and 'brushes'are in mounted state.
Then using this article the combing and hair brushing operations are combined by sweeping over the hair to either the left or right and thereby performing the two functions in a single operation. The article is thus compact, and, combining with the toilet set for which it serves as a receptacle, it constitutes a unitary space-saving device. The comb and brushmembers may be removed at any time for cleansing under a faucet, without subjecting any other part of this article to moisture or handling. also, the comb or any one ofthe brush-mem bers may be removed 'for separate or special use, without utilizing the rest of the article proper, after which they may be reinserted into the article in their locked operative mounted positions.
Variations may; be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
.Having thus described. my invention, I claim 2- '1 .l. A hair brush having a body for the brush, a brush member having an elongated auxiliary back, said body having a channel wider at its bottom and of the width of said back, and said back being configurated to fit said channel and adapted to slide longitudinally into and out of said channel for mounting and demounting the brush member.
