Application filed September 11, 1925. Serial'No. 55,768.
The present invention has reference to funnels and more particularly to a funnel especially designed for filling barrels having openings in their ends or sides.
The primary object of the invention 1s to provide a funnel so constructed that the same may be readily supported on the barrelin a -rnanner to insure against movement thereof while the barrel is being filled.
A further object of the invention is to provide a funnel which may be cheaply constructed, the same being formed bya single stamping operation whereby the blank may be readily formed.
With the foregoing and other objects 1n view which will appear as the description proceeds, theinvention resides in tl'lBCOIl'lblnation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and Y claimed," it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scopeof what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing: 7
Figure 1 is a side elevationalview illustrating a funnel constructed in accordance with the vinventionas positioned for filling a barrel througha filling opening in the head thereof. 1
Figure 2 is a sectional view' through the forward portion of the funnel.
Figure 3 is a sect-'onal view 8--3 of Figure 1. A
Figure {Lis a diagrammatic view illustrating the blank from which the funnel is con structed. f i.'
Referring tothe-drawing in detail,- the reference characteraindicate's the body portion of the funnel 'whichis' formed preferablv of sheetmetal;
The blank forming the body portion has its side edges cut away' asat '6 and'fgdefining a bottom portion 8 and sidewalls 9, the edges of the side walls 9 being brought into close engagement with the edges of the bottom 8 an end opening, while the taken on line Secured to the body portion at a point adi jacent to the opening is a spout 13 which also tapers to accommodate the'removable spout 14 provided with a right angled extremity 15 to be used (for filling a barrel from barrel is resting on its side.
When the barrel is to be filled through an opening in the side, the removable spout 14 is removed and the spout 13 positioned within the opening. A support 15 is secured to the body portion adjacent to the spout and engages the barrel at a point adjacent to the filling opening thereof to relieve the spout of undue strain during the filling process.
A At the rear of the body portion of. the funnel is a leg member 16, which is in the form of a metallic bar having its ends secured to opposite sides of the body portion, the
intermediate portion of the bar .being curved as at 17 to conform to the curvature of the barrel. I claim: A
A funnel including a blank formed of'a length of sheet material having'converg'in'g side edges and having out out portions formed in its front and rear end edges, the cut out portions having curved lateral walls and curved inner walls, said blank adapted tobe folded intermediate its side edges to provide side walls and a curved bottom, and said bottom having a discharge opening.
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my si nature.
