BRACELET.
Application filed March 26, 1927. Serial No. 178,676;
This invention relates to an improved construction of bracelet or chain formed of a plurality of units flexibly connected together; and the object of the invention is the constructlon of a bracelet or chain having a series of units of each comprising a boxlink and a slide link therein movable one relative to the other in the direction of the length of the bracelet with the slide link of one unit detachably connected to the box link of the next unit for the purpose of easily adding or removing link units of the chain to regulate the operating length of the bracelet.
A further object of the invention is to provide a readily accessible pinfor connecting the slide link of one unit to the box link of the next unit, the pin being movable endways for disconnecting the links with means for holding it in the different positions to which it may be moved.
A still further object of the invention is to limit the endways movement of the connecting pin for detachably securing a slide link to a box link so that the pin cannot be accidentally lost or moved to such an extent as to become disengaged from the slide link in which it is mounted.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

It is found in the practical construction and operation of bracelets of the type hav- :ing a plurahtyof extendible units that they may be detached one from the other by manual manipulation without the use of spe- 01 a1 tools and in order to accomplish this in a simple and practical way, I have mounted a pin which may be moved endways for detachably connecting the slide link of onev unit to the box link of the next unit, the same being held in itsposition by frictional engagement with the sleeve which extends between the walls of the slide link and yet or WARWICK, nnonn ISLAND, ASSIGNOR 'ro nosnnnnm co. 11m,
permits movement thereof for detaching purposes; and the following is a detailed description of the-present embodiment of this invention showing one means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:-
With reference tothedrawings, 10 designates a box link, having a top wall 11 folded to provide side walls 12 and bottom wall 13. Within this box link there is mounted a slide link 14 having a top wall 15, side walls 16 and an end wall 17 between which and the folded-in abutment'18 of the box link, a spring 19 acts tonormally hold. the slide contracted and'housed within the box 10.

sleeve 23 1smounted over the pin 22 and is of a length to extend between the side walls 16 of the slide link as clearly illustrated in Figures 12, 13, and 14. 1
I have'provided stops on the pin to limit the pin between .thesides of slide link and providing square shoulders 24 as il u ted in Figures 4 and 7 or I may strike up suitable projections 2541s illustrated in Figures 9 and 11 which engage the side wallsl'fi of the slide link to prevent undue endways movement of the pin therein.
I have found it desirable to provide resilient frictional engagement between the sleeve and the pin, which is accomplished by split ting the sleeve as at 26, shown in Figureb, or by splitting the pin as at 27'to provide arms 28, as illustrated in Figure 7, the sleeve having an internal diameter slightly "less than the external diameter of the pin and allowing the split part to be moved from its normal position against the inherent tension of the. stock to yieldingly hold the parts in engagement, and when the split pin is used a sleeve 29 which is not split will function and. hold the pin in position. In order to in crease the friction between the pin and the sleeve the engaging surfaces may be roughened as at 30 in the sleeve illustrated in Figure 5 or at 31 onthe pin as'illustrated in Figure 4 or'this frictional engagement may be provided by depressing the inner surface of the sleeve as at 32, in the sleeve 33 of Fig;- ure 10 and raisinga projecting rib 34 on the pin in 'Figure 9 to snap into this depression when the pin is in the desired position, it being understood that various other depressions' and formations m 'ht also be added between the sleeve and pin to, increase the holding force'thereoi'. The projections 25 on the pin may be guidedin the split of the sleeve and extend outwardly through the split of the. sleeve sufficiently totorm a tingerpiece for manual manipulation for disengagement of the pin from the walls of the.

It will be understoodfthat in instances where a pin extends-through the walls of the-box link that a common pin or any other small instrument may be used" for pressing, the pin endways to permit the box link and the slide link to be detached as illustrated in Figure 14, the reverse operations serving for assemliling or attaching I one unit tothe other, it being understood that the pin may be pressed from its opposite end to move the same back intoyposition to engage opposite walls of theb'ox; link.
The foregoingdescription is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but-I desire it togbe understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to allthe mechanical changesto which the device-is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended elainrs'.

An extendible chain structure comprising a series of units, each comprising a box link and a slide link mounted therein for limited relative movement, said links having corresponding side vvalls, a pin mounted and endwavs movable in the side Walls, of said slide link a sleeve extending between the side Walls oi said slide link and friction all engaging said pin to hold the same in its desired position and formations on said pin and the inner surface of said sleeve respectively consisting of depressions and a projection for holding the pin in adjusted position.

An extendible chain structure comprising a series of units each comprising a box link and a slide link mounted therein for limited relative movement said links having corresponding side Walls, a pin mounted and endWays movable in the side Walls of said slide link a sleeve extending between the side Walls of said slide link and frictionally engaging said pin to hold the same in its desired position, the ends of said pin extending into the Walls of the box link of the adjacent unit to connect the slide link thereto, said slide link being detachable therefrom by the endxvays movement of said pin, and means to limit the endvvays movement of said pin in said slide link.

An extendible chain structure comprising a series of units, each comprising a box link and a slide link mounted therein for limited relative movement, said links having corresponding side Walls, a pin mounted and endways movable in the side Walls of said slide link, a split SlGGVu extending between the side walls of said slide link and having resilient frictional engagement with, said pin to hold the same in its desired position, the ends of said pin extending into the Walls of the box link of the adjacent unit to connect the slide, link thereto, said slide link being detachable therefrom by the endways movement of said pin, and projections extending from said pin through the split in said sleeve to limit the movement of said 'pin in said slide link and at the same time Serve as a finger piece for moving said'pin endWays.
