This invention relates to a scrubbing machine and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in connection with railroad rolling stock although it can be otherwise employed if desired. 7
It is an object of the invention to provide a machine of this kindv embodying a rotary brush together with means whereby said brush may be operated by a fluid .under'pres sure and which also embodies means for properly delivering to the brush water or the like and also for delivering to such brusha desired detergent. v I
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved scrubbing machine whereby certain supported by the end plates or heads of the "casing or stator C, said shaft having a porhereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawingsywhereink Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a scrubbing machine constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, C denotes acylinderical casing of requisite dimensions and which constltutesthe stator for the motor. To one end plate or head of the casing or stator C is -fiX8d a housing H, said housing being disposed over only a portion of said plate or head 1.
Snugly engaged withinthe casing or stator C is a rotor Rhaving its peripheral portion provided with the pockets 2 provided with the substantially radially disposed walls 3 which receivethe' impact of the fluid under pressure delivered within the casing or stator C through a port 4 provided in the peripheral wall 5 ofgsuch casing or stator C. The port l is continued by an outwardly disposed nipple 6 to whichis coupled a hose line 7 leading from a suitable source of fluid under pressure, preferably compressed 'air. Interposed in the nipple dis. a valve 8 whereby the operation of the rotor R may bereadily and conveniently regulated or controlled. The peripheral wall 5 of the casing or stator C is provided with an exhaust port 9 The rotor R is fixed to a shaft 10 rot-atably tion extending within the housing H and carrying a pinion 11. This pinion 11 meshes ,with a gear 12 carried bya shaft 14. The
shaft 14 is rotatably carried by a platform or table 15 secured to the adjacent end plate or hea-d l but spaced therefrom. The shaft '14 also carries a pinion-16 indicated by dotted lines in Figure-4 meshing with agea'r 17 carried by a tubular shaft 18. This shaft 18 has coacting with its inner portion and the table 15 the anti-friction means 19. This shaft extends through theouter head 20 of the housing H and lengthwise through the elongated cylindrical housing 21 carried b the head 20 of'the housing H. The sha 18 is of a length to project, as desired be yond the outer end of the cylindrical housing 21 and the outer portion of such housing 21' and the shaft 18 have coac'ting there with the anti-friction means 22.
Suitably connected to the .outerend portion of the shaft 18is a brush B circular in contour and of preferred dimensions;
The outer portion of the brushB at its axial center is provided with a pocket or well 23 in the inner portion "of which discharges 'the outer'extremity of a pipe line '24 disposed through theshaft 18. The outer or delivery end portionof the pipe line 24 has arrangedtherein a spreader or deflector 25, herein disclosed as substantially V-shaped in form with-its apex directed inwardly of the pipe 24; The outer extremities 'of. this deflector or spreader extends beyond the adjacent end of the pipe line 24. This deflector or spreader 25 serves effectually to cause the material discharged through the pipe line 24 to be effectively distributed within the bristles of the brush B. V
The inner end portion of the ipe line 24 terminates inwardly of the plat orm 15 and such inner portion has in communication therewith the oppositely directed pipe lines 26 and 27 These lines 26 and 27 extend exteriorly of the housing H through the peripheral Wall 28 thereof and are in communication with the outer end portionsof the cylinders 29 and 30 respectively.
The inner or opposite end portion. of each ofv the cylinders 29 and-30. has engaged therewith a pipe line 31 extending inwardly of the end plate or head 1 and held thereto by a suitable clamp32- The cylinders 29 and 30 provide operating handles for the machine, the pipe lines 26 and 27 serving as bracing mediumsas also the pipe lines 31 through the mediumof a connection 33. The pipe lines 31 have their outer portions preferably in parallelism and coupled to said outer extremities of. the pipelines 31 are the hose lines 33 leading to a suitable source of supply under pressure, one of said hose lines leading from a water'supply and the other from a supply of detergent. This detergent may be a liquid soap or any material or composition desired for use as a cleansing medium. The water or detergent may be under air pressure or the source of supply may be at such elevation to assure a requisite delivery of the material.
Each of the cylinders 29 and 30 is provided with an internal valve seat 34 with which engages from-below a valve 359 This valve 35 is carried by a stem or rod 36 extending exteriorly of its cylinder 29 or 30 through the outer end thereof. the outer end portion of the stem. or rod 36 being )rovided with a button 37 or the like wherey the stem may be readily depressed by the thumb of a hand of the operator grasping the cylinder 29 or 30 to move the valve 35 into open position to permit requisite fiow to the brush B of either the wa-teror detergent. e
The valve 35' is normally maintaine closed by the expansible member 38, herein disclosed as a coil spring, encircling the rod 36 and interposed between the valve seat 34 and the washer 39 or the like carried bythe of the thumb upon the'required button 37.
It is obvious that the valves 35 may be independently operated to have such valves open at different periods or at the same time if required.
' My improved washing machine is particularly advantageous for use in scrubbing and cleaning railroad coaches, window glass in factory buildings, homes and the like, and also for cleaning purposes in connection with locomotives. railroad shops and otherwise in connection with railroads.
From the foregoing description it is thoughtrto be obvious that a scrubbing machine constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will. also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason. I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein, shown in carrying out my invention in practice ex cept as hereinafter claimed. i
I claim I 1. A machine of the class described comprising in combination, a supporting structure, a shaft rotatably supported thereby, a brush carried by the shaft, a-pipe line extending lengthwise of the shaft and dis charging upon the brush, cylinders carried by the supporting structure and constituting handles, pipe lines leading from said cylinders, onev of, said pipe lines being 100 adapted for communication with a source of water supply and another with a source of detergent supply, pipe lines connecting the cylinders with thefirst named pipe line.and

A machineof the class described comprising, in combination, a supporting structure, a shaft carried thereby, means for to tating theshaft, a brush carried by the shaft, a pipe line extending along the shaft and discharging upon the brush, the brush having a central pocket in which thepipe line discharges, and normally closed means for controlling the flow through the pipe line, the discharge end portion of the pipe line having a deflector extending therein,
said deflector being substantially V-shaped mo in form with its apex portion disposed inwardly of the pipe line.
