One or more coiled or other springs are ample for retain-- ing the arms or jaws apart or for drawing them together.
\Vheu the arms or jaws are joined like a Y pair of scissors they might be provided with a loop at their lower ends.
The upper ends of the said jaws are provided on their inner surfaces with a pad or a cup of any suitable size and shape made of solid or inflated india-rubber orvother suitable material, or the said upper ends are provided with small rollers of india-rubber or other suitable material. v
The said pads may, when required, be substituted by bristles or by a. number of pinnacles formed of india-rubber or other suitable material for cleansing the teeth and gums.
Referring to the drawing wherein is tion,
shown a preferred embodiment of the inven- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the appa-v Referring to the drawings wherein like d any suitable yieldable material such as metal or the like. The arms a and b are crossed between their ends and integrally connected together by the curvedportion 0. fThe free endsof the arms a and b are normally urged towards one another and adapted to be opened upon the application of pressure adjacent the connected ends thereof." Yieldable gum and teeth treating instrumentalities j made of rubber or thelike are connected to the free ends of the armsja and b and normally contact with each other in the manner as shown. The massaging instrumentalities j are suitably curved so that when in use they will engage the teeth and gums so as to effectively treat the gum and teeth.
It will be seen that by reason of the present invention a very simple and inexpensive device is obtained and one which is admirably suited for the purposes intended.
