MASSAGING APPARATUS.
Application filed December 13, 1920, Serial No. 430,564, and. in'Great Britain June 9, 1920.
This invention has reference to improvements in appliances for cleansing, massage,
or like treatment of the teeth and it is particularly applicable for massaging the gums. ii The object of this invention is to provide simple and easily used apparatus or instrument for professional or personal use for cleansing and removing any impurities from the gums and teeth. i j
According to this invention the apparatus or instrument is made of any suitable material such as metal,which may or may not be electro-plated,or bone or celluloid, and it consists essentially of two arms or jaw-s which are either united together at their lower ends by a flat or other spring, or they may be mounted in a spring or other con, trolled holder or the said jaws are hinged or jointed together at their ends or joined to together like a pair of scissors. One or more coiled or other springs are ample for retain-- ing the arms or jaws apart or for drawing them together.
\Vheu the arms or jaws are joined like a Y pair of scissors they might be provided with a loop at their lower ends.
The upper ends of the said jaws are provided on their inner surfaces with a pad or a cup of any suitable size and shape made of solid or inflated india-rubber orvother suitable material, or the said upper ends are provided with small rollers of india-rubber or other suitable material. v
The said pads may, when required, be substituted by bristles or by a. number of pinnacles formed of india-rubber or other suitable material for cleansing the teeth and gums.

The massaging instrumentalities j are suitably curved so that when in use they will engage the teeth and gums so as to effectively treat the gum and teeth.
It will be seen that by reason of the present invention a very simple and inexpensive device is obtained and one which is admirably suited for the purposes intended.
It is to be understood that the form'o'f the invention herewith illustrated anddescribed is merely illustrative of a preferred embodiment of the developmentaand such changes as fall within the purview of one skilled in the art maybe made without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the'appended claim.
A dental massaging device comprising a pair of cross arms yieldably connected at one end to permit movement towards and from one another, the free ends of the arms being normally urged towards one another andadapted to be opened upon application 7 of pressure adjacent the connected ends of the arms, and yieldable gum and teeth treating instrumentalities carried by the free ends of each of the arms, said instrumentalities being curved and normally contacting with each other.
