'Application filedfFebruaryS, 192.5. 'Serial No. -l8'3081.
My invent-ion relates to improvements in window structures and has 'todo `more par-r` ticularly with th.e:provision of .means def V'signed to render'the'san'ie tight against the passage of the velements:therethrough be- 2tween thesashor'sashes land the frame. It also vcontemplates the tprovision of means at the lioints between the framesectioiis for a similar purpose and it is `to embody such means in aninexpensive structure capable of 'asociat'ion withfordinary types'of windows yboth sliding andaswinging without.k material yalterationsI th-eretol that constitutes the purn pose of my invention.
i lffith. the foregoingandother purposes in viewvinyT invention consists in the novel fean tures of construction, "combination and relative arrangement of parts aswill be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly defined vin the 'ap pen ded "`clai'ni`s.
In the jdrawings wherein :like characters `of reference `denote corresponding parts iii 'Figure 4;, a front elevation of a window' having a hinged sash and equipped withmy improvements. Y
Figure 5, Ia vfragmentary section onthe line 3 5-.of F igurell, and
Figure T6, a fragmentary section on the line 6.-6 of Figure 1l.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, particularly'to jFiguresl, 2 and 3, it will be observed that my improvements presently to be referred to are associated with la window structure ofl ordinary design consisting of a frame 10 within which upper and lower sashes 11 and 12, respectively, are slidably arranged. The frame 10 includes vertically disposed sidepieces 13 connected at their upper ends by a transverse connecting piece 14 and at their lower ends by a transverse piece 15 uponwhichrests the sill 16. Devices 17 are provided at the Vjoints between the outer side pieces 13 and the transverse pieces 14 and15 to prevent the passage' of the elements therethrough. Said devicesl? are all of theV saine construction, each iniside pieces of the sashes. provided to secure the strips 24 tothe interlower.
cluding a fiat terminal eutei portion 18, a doubled 'inner portion 19 land-.an intermediate .portion l2O connecting said inner Aand outer portions, which iattereXtend from the 'intermediate.portion relatively in opposite directions vas shown. The doubledportions vl19 `are -adapted-to be received in recesses fformed in the respective ends of the vertical side pieces 'lfin which position the 'outer yportions v18 will be disposed ilatagainst the rupper and lower transverse connecting pieces "1st and 1:5 wherevthey'may besecured by screws, nails or other fasteners. Thev devices .l'rare preferably 'formed from inherently resilient Vvmaterial so'thatthe sides of the doubled portion v19 will have a tendency to spring outwardlyfand-fthereby maintain a tight engagemeiit withthe sides of the recesses inthe kpieces 13 which-are adapted to receive them.- i
Secured to and extending transverselyl of the upper transverse piece 14e, and in line with the upper sash, isa strip 27, while se-` curedto the sill 16, in line with the lower sash, is a similar Vstrip 28, the latter strip being provided with transverse apertures 29 to permit rain er other water to drain frein-l the inner to the outer side thereof. The upper rail of the upper sash is provided with a channel to receive the strip 27 when said .sash is closed and similarly the lower rail of the lower sash is provided with a Sul 'Lil
