UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
WET-FEED MIXER.
' Application filed July 13, 1925.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wet feed mixers and pertains more particularly to a novel valve structure and operating means therefor, whereby to control the egress of the feed from the mixer.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved valve structure of simple and economical construction, which is capable of easy and quick operation to control the opening and closing of the mixer outlet.
A further object of the invention is to provide operating means for the valve which enables actuation thereof from the top of the mixer, and further to provide a liftable valve which may be held open or closed.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view on line 1-1 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a tank or container 1 is employed having a cone journal 2 on its bottom engaged in an opening formed at the lower end of a hub 3 carrying blades 4. The hub is threadedly mounted on a vertical shaft5, the latter having its upper end journalled in a bracket 6 at the top of the tank. The bracket 6 is preferably of L-shape and is formed of a strip of metal bent at its center to form a journal 7 and *having its ends 8 turned at right angles and riveted or bolted to the tank sides. The upper end of the shaft is bent to form an operating crank t The bottom of the tank is formed with an integral downwardly and inwardly flanged outlet opening 10 from which a pipe 11 leads to conduct the feed to a feed trough, not shown. The pipe 11 has its upper end flanged and engaged over the flange of the opening 10 and secured to the tank bottom. A horizontal bar 12 is spaced above the tank bottom and is hinged at one end thereof at 13 to an L-shaped clip 14 which latter is riveted to the tank bottom. A disk valve Serial No. 43,190.
15 of leather, or rubber is bolted at 16 to the bar 12, and depends therefrom in spaced relation to the bar.
A vertical operating rod 18 has a handle 19,011 its upper end which latter projects above the tank top. The rod 18 extends within and along a side of the tank and is pivoted at lower end at 20 to the free end of the bar 12. The upper end portion of the rod is slidable through a guide 21 of L-shape which is riveted to the tank side.
From the foregoing it will be seen that in order to open the outlet to permit the feed to gravitate from the tank into the feed trough it is merely necessary to raise the rod 18 thereby lifting the valve from its seat.
The device is particularly designed for mixing wet feed for hogs, the feed and water being placed in the tank and stirred or mixed by rotation of agitating blades.
Vhat is claimed is In a feed mixer, a tank having a discharge opening in its bottom, the wall defined by the opening being bent downwardly and tapering inwardly, a discharge pipe having a flanged end engaged over and closely with the exterior of the tapering wall and secured to the bottom of the tank, a valve engageable with said tapered wall, a bar hinged at one end to and above the bottom of the tank and having an opening in its opposite end, a bolt securing the valve to the bar at a point intermediate the ends of the bar, a clip on the top of the tank having an opening adjacent a side of the tank, and an operat ing rod on the interior of the tank having its lower end bent to form an eye and engaged through said opening in the opposite end of the bar, the upper end of the rod be ing extended through the clip opening and bent to forman eye-like handle which latter overlies the clip and is adjacent thereto.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
GEORGE F. HINKLEY.
