IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-BOXES.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 163,438, dated May 18, 1875; application filed. February 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN ASH, of New York, county and State of New York, have invented an Improved Cigar-Box, of which the following is a specification:
The drawing represents a vertical cross-section of my improved cigar-box.
This invention relates to an improved construction of cigar-boxes; and consists in constructing the cover of the box of two lids, one lid being hinged to the box and the other lid being removable, so that when the box is opened for displaying the cigars therein contained the removable lid may be placed on the top of the hinged lid, which will thus greatly reduce the space occupied by the cover. The invention also consists in combining, with a box provided with a hinged and a removable lid, a longitudinal partition which will divide the box into two longitudinal compartments, which partition is, by preference, so arranged that each of these compartments can be closed by one of the lids.
In the drawing, the letter A represents the body of my improved cigar-box. The same is, by a longitudinal partition, a, divided into two longitudinal compartments, as shown. B and O are two lids. The lid 0 is hinged to the box, but the lid B is loose, and can be held closed by book and eyes, or by other suitable means. When the contents of one half box or compartment are to be displayed in a show-case, or otherwise, either the lid B is removed and placed upon 0, orG is opened. Afterward the empty half can be closed and the other half opened, and even both halves can be opened BENJAMIN ASH.
