Description

Jul 5 192 y 7 L. NAGY' GRAVITY TABLE Filed May. 24. 1926 lNVENTOR Louis Nagy BY l1. (1 ATTOR STATES LOUIS NAGY, UL I-IAMILTG-N, ONTARIO, CANADA, ASSIGNOR OF IVEORTGN, OF HAMILTON, CANADA.
PATENT OFFICE.
GRAVITY TABLE.
Application filed May 24, 1926.
This invention relates generally to tables, the invention having more particular reference to a novel type of gravity table such as used on board lips and the lilze.
The invention has for an object th pro vision of an improved gravity table embodying adjustable features so as to render the device more effective.
iii further object of the invention is the provision an imp oved gravity table of n vel construction and arrangement of parts.
F or iurther comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and ac: oanying drawing, and to tie appended ins in which the various novel 2 1 the invention are particularly fort 1, oil the drawing my improved l side clevational view thereof. 1' a vertical se tional view, taken l line Jig. s *iew, partly in section,
view of the unentary detail R'iOCllnCZl'tiOll of the gravsioe elevational l here embodied my improved gravity table comprises table top 10, preierably circular, and having attached thereto, at its under side, a support 11, preferably circular of somewhat smaller diameter than the table top 10, and provided with a recess 12, locates the common center of the support 11 and the table top 10, and adapted to receive the socket element 13, which is adapted to receive the ball element 1%, of the center leg 15, provided with an enlarged lower extremity 16, having apertures 17, as a means of suitably attaching the center leg 15 to the floor l8, deck or to any desired similar part of a ship or the like.
e above described construction is such as will permit the said table top 10, to be pivotally supported by the center leg 15. The support 11 has attached at its periphery a plurality of supporting rods 19, or the like, depending downward therefrom, attached to Serial No. 111,117.
a supporting ring 20. The coil springs 21 are attached to the supporting ring 20, d to a base 22, adapted to be attached to the above mentioned floor 18.
The above described construction is such as will permit the coil springs 21 to normally hold the table top 10 in a parallel position relative to the floor 18.
The gravity members comprise an upper member 28, having its upper extremity 24, formed or bent so as to form a hook, adapted to pivotally engage apertures 25 located in the supporting ring 20. The tubular member 26, is attached at its up oer extremity to the lower extremity of the upper member 23, and extends downward therefrom. The supporting tube 26, is adapted to slidably engage the tubular member 26, and is pro vided with a thumb screw 27, threadedly attached thereto, and located or near ti e upper extremity of the supporting tube 26, so as to firmly hold the tubular member 26 in any desired extended position. The tubular member 26 is provided wit 1 an enlarge-z. lower extremity 28, having a dovetailed recess 29, adapted to slidably receive the dovetailed member 80, having attached thereto, as at 31, a weight 32 preferably shaped similar to a plumb bol The thumb screw 33, is threadedly attached to the enlarged lower extremity 28, of the tubular member 26, so as to firmly hold the weight 32 in any desired extended position. The above de scribed construction is such as will permit the weights 32 to be extent ed so as to hold the table top 10 in a level position, when the above mentioned floor 18 is tilted or as sun'ies an angular position, as may be the case on board ships or the like during a rough sea or the like.
Referring in particular to Figs. 6 and 7,
of the accompanying drawing, in which I have illustrated a modification or" my improved device the upper member 23 has threadedly attached thereto, a thumb'screw 34-. It is understood that tl e thumb screw 34 is positioned so as to permit its extremity 35 to engage the supporting ring 20, and extend, swing or pivot the weight 32, and firmly hold the said weight 32 in the above mentioned position, so as to hold the table top 10 in a level position, when the above mentioned floor is tilted as above setforth.
Having thus described my invention,
ONE-HALF TO LASZLO what ll claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is as tollows:-
1. in a gravity table or the class described, a table top having attached thereto, a support provided with a recess located at the common center of the said support and the said table top, and adapted to receive a socket element, adapted to receive the ball element of a center log provided with an enlarged lower extremity providral ith a suitable means oi? attaching same to the "floor of a ship or the like, so as to permit the said table top to be pivot-ally upported by the said center log, said suppc attached at its periphery a plura porting rods, depending downu from and attached to a supporti coil springs attached to the said St L 1 ring, and to bases, adapted to attached tr the said floor, so as to peri'uit the said coil springs to normally hold the said table top in a parallel position relative to the salt floor.
21in a gravity table oi? he class described, a table top mg attached thereto, a support provided with a recess located at the common center or the said support and the said table top and adapted to receive a. socket element, adapted to receive the ball element of a center leg provided with an enlarged lower extremity provided with a suitable means of attaching same to the floor or" a ship or the like so as to permit the said table top to be pivotally su sported by the said center leg, said having attached at its periphery a plural y or supporting rods, depending downward thercfrom, and attached to a supporting ring,
coil springs attached to the said supporting ring, and to bases, adapted to be attached to the said door, so as to permit the said coil springs to normally hold the said table top in a parallel position relative to the said floor, gravity members comprising an upper member having its upper extremity bent so as to form a hook, adapted to pivotally engage apertures located in the said supporting ring, a tubular member attached at its upper extremity to the lower extremity of the said upper member, and extending downward therefrom, a supporting tube adapted to slidably engage said tubular member, said supporting tube being provided with a thumb screw, threadedly attached thereto, so as to firmly hold the said tubular member in any desired extended position, so as to firmly hold the weight in any desired extended position, so as to permit the weights to be extended so as to holdthe said table top in a level position when the above mentioned floor is tilted, said supporting ring provided with an enlarged lower extremity having dovetailed recess adapted to slidably receive a dovetailed member having attached thereto a weight, a thumb screw threadodly attached to the said enlarged lower extremity of the said tubular member.
3. in a gravity table of the class described, a table top having attached thereto a support, said support having attached at its periphery a plurality of supporting rods, depending downward therefrom, and attached to a supporting ring, coil springs attached to the said supporting ring and to bases, adapted to be attached to the said floor, so as to permit the said coil springs to normally hold the said table top in a parallel position relative to the said floor.
4-. lin a device of the class described, a table top, a support attached thereto, the support being formed with a recess located at the common center of the table top and support, a central leg having at the upper end a ball element flexibly connected to the said recess, a plurality of supporting rods attached to the periphery of the support, and depending downwards therc'i ron'i, a imp-porting attached to the lower ends of the supporting rods, coil springs attached to the supporting ring, and aases attached to the lower ends of the coil springs.
in testimony whereofi l have a'liixed my signature.
