Description

1,632, June 21, 1927. 5, ROGERS NURSING NIPPLE Original Filed march 1923 Z] mentor- Patented June 21," 1927.
ALMERIN E. ROGERS, 0F PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA.
nonsmc NIPrLn.
implication filed March 14, 1923, Serial No. 625,039. Renewed November 10, 1926.
This invention relates to improvements in nursing nipples. V
The prime object of my invention is to providekt nursing nipple with interior screw threads so that the. nipple may be secured on the mouth of a bottle against accidental dislodgment.
A further object of my invention is toprovide a nursing nipple formed of a single piece of rubber, but having the enlarged end of the nipple with the screw threads formed of hard rubber compound, while the small end of the nipple is formed of a soft flexible rubber compound.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a nipple of the above indicated character that will securely engage the mouth of a bottle and prevent any of the contents of the bottle from leaking out between the threads and the bottle.
An additional object of my invention is to provide a nipple of the above indicated character, which is simple in' construction, efiicient for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured at a relatively low cost.
These andlike objects of theinvention will be better understood as the description proceeds and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which better illustrates the constructionof my improved nip le,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a nursing bottle having my invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 1s a vertical section of my improved nipple, and
Figure 3 is an end view of same.
Referrin to the accompanying drawings in detail, like characters will be used to designate like parts in the dih'erent'views.
In the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a nursing bottle having graduations stamped on one side of same.
Heretofore, most nursing bottles have been provided with a lip adjacent the mouth of the bottle, and it has been necessary to pull the enlarged end of the ni ple over the lip when placing same on the ottle. This has proved to be very diflicult when first using the nipple, and after the nipple has been used a number of times, it stretches and will not firmly hold in engagement with the mouth of thebottle.
In order to eliminate the above described undesirable features of the present day nipple, I have constructed a nipple that while formed from a single piece of rubber, is composed of two different kinds. The numeral 3 designates the body of the nipple which is formed with a reduced end 4 having an aperture 5 thereth'rough, through which communication may be had with the contents of the bottle 1 when. the nipple is in position. The enlarged end of the nipple as at 6 is formed of hard rubber and is provided on theintcrior of same with threads 7 for engagement with threads formed on the mouth of the bottle. A shoulder 8 is formed in the enlarged portion 6 which provides a seat for the packing ring 9.
From the foregoing description of my invention, it can be readily seen that I have provided a nipple which eliminates all of the undesirable features of the present type of nipple and at the same time embodies the desirable features, as above stated.
In view of the foregoing description of my invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction of same is unnecessary.
While I haveshown and described the preferred form of my improved nipple, I Wish it to be understood that various minor changes may be resorted to as will fall within the spirit and scope of the claims ap pended.
What I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A nursing nipple formed in one piece having soft flem'ble rubber at one end and hard rubber on the opposite end to provide screw threads.
2. In a nursin nipple, formed in a single piece, a soft rub er compound forming the reduced end of said nipple, and a hard rubber compound forming the enlarged end of said nipple to provide interior screw threads for enlgageliment with the threads on the neck of a ott e.
piece, a soft rubber compound forming the reduced end of said nipple, a hard rubber compound forming the enlarged end of said 5 nipple to provide interior threads for engement with threads on the neck of a bottle, a shoulder formed in the hard rubber compound; and 'a soft rubber washer to be received between the shoulder and the top of the bottle. r
In testimony whereof, I have aflixed my signature.
