Description

Patented June 14, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH M. DIETZ, F RIDGWAY, PENNSYLVANIA.
ARCTIC.
Application filed December 6, 1926. Serial No. 152,939.
entrance neck. The latter is usually open on.
the front side, and the opening is bridged by an expansible web or tongue. The edges are fastened together by clips, suitable laces, or
appropriate fasteners.
The present inventlon also is characterized by the usual features of the customary galoshes and in addition is provided with a vertical slit in its rear side which extends upwardly from a point adjacent the heel to a point spaced downwardly from the top edge, thus providing anopening, this being able fastening means being provided on the edges of the slit for connecting them together.
My principal aim is to provide footwear of this type which is characterized by the structural features recited to render it individual, and to give it a new appearance to facilitate insertion and removal of the foot and shoe of the wearer. i
The particular structural details forming the alleged novelty, will become apparent from the following description and drawings. l
In the drawings Figure 1 is a rear perspective view of /a single galosh constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same showing the slits in open position.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section taken approximately upon the plane of the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. l
As before stated, the arctic is substantially conventional in configuration, and ineludes among other parts, a relatively long or high neck 1 which is formed with the usual front opening tongue fasteners, etc.
It is formed on itsrear side with a slit prospanned by an expansible tongue and suitviding an opening which extends from a point adjacent the heel to a point spaced downwardly from the top and as shown plainly in ig, 2. Then an expansible web or tongue is attached to the inner side as shown in Fig. 3, and extends across the opening to allow for expansion such as is necessary in placing the article on the foot.
Conventional fastening means are secured to the edge portions of the slot, the cooperating elements being represented by the reference characters 3, being connected by a well known type of fastening slide 4. When the slide is moved from the bottom of the foot, as shown in Fig. 2, to the top, as shown.
in Fig. 1, it serves to close the opening and to fasten the arctic nicely upon the foot of the wearer.
' It is believed that the improvement recited herein is a step forward in the art in that it represents a characteristically new product of manufacture, which possesses originality and individual appearance, and which is advantageous in that it forms a neat fit on the foot of the wearer, and yet is so constructed as to permit easy insertion and removal of the foot, the necessary expansion being provided forby the expansible web and the complemental elongated opening on the rear side. a
No doubt, by considering the lescription.
in connection with the drawings, a clear understanding of the invention will be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new.is:-
An arctic in luding a relatively high entrance neck having an elongated opening on its rear side extending from a point just above the heel to a point spaced downwardly from the open top of the neck, and means for bringing the edges of the opening together and fastening them, together with an ex pansible web fastened to the inner side of the neck and extending across said opening.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. JOSEPH M. DIETZ.
