It is the object of my invention to provide an egg carton of novel construction, whereby the eggs are securely held in separated relation in the carton and cushioningly pro tected; further, to'provide novel cushioning means formed in the carton for the indi-' vidual eggs; and, further, t'o'provide supporting means whereby the egg containing portion of the carton is raised above .the

The flanges 28, 29, are preferably pasted to the semi-cylindrical sections 12, 14, along the inside faces of the walls of said semi;-

cylindrical sections and at both sides of the inner grooves formed by the outwardly extending ribs 44, and at both sides of the inwardly extending ribs 45, 46, as will be clearly seen in Figs. 1 and 3, whereby the ribs are reenforced and the carton additionof sai ally strengthened, especially in lengthwise -.Suitable closing means are provided for the carton, shown as a string 51, one end of which is secured to a fastening clip 52, which fixes a button 53 to the carton, the string being received around -the carton, and the other end of the string being wound around said fastening clip under the button.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1.. An egg carton comprising a shell embodying a pair of substantially semicylindrical sections forming shell-halves hinged together by a score integral in said shell at one side of said substantially semicylindrical sections, egg-nest sections extending laterally from the opposite sides of said res ective shell-sections toward said score an provided with mating egg-pockets, the bodies of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections provided with radially outwardly extending ribs forming grooves at the inner surfaces of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections, said ribs extending about said substantially semi-cylindrical sections adjacent to the ends thereof for strengthening the substantially semi-cylindrical, forms of said sections and resiliently spacing the intermediate portions substantially semi-cylindrical sections between said ribs from a plane surface upon which said carton may be placed, and

flanges extending from the edges of said respectlve-egg-nest sections at said score, said flanges pasted to the inside faces of the side walls'of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections adjacentto said score at. both sides of said ribs and groove, said ribs and said pasting of said flanges at the respective sides thereof strengthening the substantially semi-cylindrical form of said sections and the forms of said'ribs lengthwise of said sections, and said radially outwardly extending ribs arranged to support said carton with the body of said carton spaced from a plane surface on whichsaid carton may be placed.

3. An egg carton comprising a shell 1 formed with a plurality of pairs of substantially semi-cylindrical sections to form shell-halves hinged together by a score integral in said shell, egg-nest sections extending laterally from said respective shell-sections toward said score and provided with mating egg-pockets, the outer portions of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections of said shell provided with inwardly extending indentations in axial lines with said eg pockets for cushioning the rwpective ends of the eggs therein, and the ends of said shell prov ded with radially outway extending ribs extending about said substan tially semi-cylindrical sections for strengthenmg the substantially semi-cylindrical forms of said sections and for suporting saidcarton with the body of sai carton spaced from a plane support on which said carton may be placed, flanges. extending from the edges 0 said egg-nest sections at said score asted to the inner faces of the walls of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections adjacent to said" score and at both sides of said ribs,- whereby to strengthen the :forms of said substantially semicylindrical sections and ribs. 4. An egg, carton comprising a shell embodying a pair of substantiallyv semi-cylindrical'sections forming shell-halves hinged together by a score integral in said shell at one side of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections,- egg-nest sections'extending laterally from the o posite sides of said respective substantial y semi-cylindrical sections toward said score and provided with mating egg-pockets, the .bodies ofsaid substantially semi-cylindrical sections provided with radially outwardly extending projections forming indentations at the inner surfaces of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections, said projections extending about said substantially semi-c lindrical sections, and flanges extending rom the edges of said respective egg-nest sections at said score along the inside faces of the side walls of said substantially semi-cylindrical sections adjacent to said score and complemental to said rojection's for strengthening the substantial y semi-cylindrical form of said sections, and said radially outwardly extending projections arranged to support said carton with the body of said carton spaced from a plane, surface on which said carton may be placed.
