f consn'r Crase:
Tlie invention" stated 'in its broadest terms relates to corsets and has more especial relation to a clasp therefor.
The leading object of the present inven' tion is to provide a corset claspwhich is of simple, unexpensive z and efficientv structure having such interlookingparts asshall tend to reduce to a minimum, the possibilityof clasp separation during a period of corsetV struct-ion hereiIiafterVdeScribed and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the inventionv will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanymg drawings-forming part hereof, and in which: Fig. l is a view in front elevation of a corset with the corset fabric brokento illustrate clasp structure. f Y
Fig. 2 is a view in front elevation, upon .an enlarged scale, illustrating details of clasp construction. Fig. 3 is a view in cross-section taken upon the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a face View of the base-plate as shown in said foregoing figures.
Fig. 5 is an edge view-of Fig. 4. l Fig. 6 is a face view of the clamp, shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and Y Fig. 7 is a detail view hereinafter re'- ferred to. y
For the purpose of illustrating my invention, I have shown in the. accompanyingdrawings, one form thereof which` is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory Vand reliable results, although ituis to beV understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invent-ion consists can be various-4 be secured along the median line 2 by Va plurality of securing mediums. Heretofore fasteners comprising studs and, slotted catches have been employed which have the tentlency="tb"sep arate or 'become detached1 diirl' ing body movements of the `wearer of the l corset. Along fone edge of the corsetthere is attached a plurality of metal plates 3, slotted at 4 and aperrtured at 5 so that the plates may be sewn' to the corset', said plates, rwhich are thin', flat and elongatechmay'be of any desired number. Secured to the opposite edge of the corset are a@ series of companion parts for interlocking relationy with respect to saidl plates. Said parts each comprise a thin, flat plate 6, apertured at 7 for being sewn to the corset 2. Each plate 6, has struck up therefrom a pair of lugs 8 having apertures for pivotally receiving the pintles 9 of a clamp 10. The clamp 1Y0 is formed upon an arc of a circle as shown in Fig. 3 and is provided with la finger piece l1. vIn alignment with the lugs 8 and secured to plate 6 as at 12 beneath clamp 10, is a spr1ng'13. p
In use thetwo edges of the corset are drawn around the body of the wearer and the clamps l() inserted through the slot'sf of plates 3. snapped down upon thel plates 6, against the pressure of springs 13,thus providing an .efiicient yand reliable 4interlock of parts which are relatively difficult to accidentally misplace. i
advantage. enumerated as desirable in the,
statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the present instance shown and described the preferredv embodiment thereof which has been foundin practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to beunderstood thatthe same is susceptible of'modification in various particulars without departingk from the spirit The clamps l0 are then 1 The finger piece 11 is useful in l Vunfastening the clasp parts. In practice the goods of which the corset iscovered may be employed to conceal the metal parts.
It will nowjbe apparent that .I have dei or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim is :5
In a corset openingupon a front vertical medial lineythe combination of aplurality ofthin flat, elongated plates secured adjacent to one vertical edge of thecorset each"` plate having a spring pressed,. elongated4 i' clamp pivotally mounted thereon, providedv with a finger piece, a leaf-spring for each Y pivotal clamp arranged in alignmentwith the pivot points, said leaf spring being elongated and rivetedintermediate of its Vends to said plate in aplane below the said pivotal clamp and substantially in alignment` Vwith the aXis of the latter, portions of said vspringon each side of the riveted portion being bowed upwardly to Contact With the inner pivotal edge of said clamp, and a plurality of other thin, flat and slotted plates '10 secured to the opposite vertical edge of the and to be moved about their pivot points forv clamping upon said first mentioned plates to interlock said corset front.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my naine.` l
y ALMA KAUTZSGH.
