Application filed September This invention relates to brushes and it is an object of the invention to provide a brush of this kind particularly adapted for use in Thenovel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein I Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating a brush constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in use in connection with a wheel;
Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the brush as herein disclosed; i I
Figure 3 is a view in elevation of the outer end of the brush as illustrated in Figure 2.
As disclosed in the accompanying, drawing, S denotes the spokes of a wheel which is also provided with a brake drum D.
My improved brush comprises an elongated spindle A having one end portion formed to provide a handle or hand grasp 1 while its opposite end portion is provided with a rubber pad or tip 2 serving as a buffer for protection when the brush is in use.
Radiating from the spindle A and extending a major distance therealong are the bristles 3 formed in a manner to provide at the outer end of the'spindle A a circular or cylindrical head 0; and an elongated cylindrical brush body 6 adjacent to the opposite end of the spindle A or adjacent to the handle or hand grasp 1. The inner end of the portion 6 is continued toward the por- 8, 1926. Serial No. 134,241.
tion a by a gradually tapering portion 0 the outer or restricted end of which being continued by a reduced neck portion at properly merging with the head a.
In practice, my improved brush is particularly adapted for use in cleaning the spokes S of the wheel and particularly for cleaning out the dirt between the spokes S and the brake drum DQ This latter use is readily attained in View of the fact that the brush head, as formed by the bristles 3, permits the head portion a to readily engage or work between the spokes and drum and which operation is further facilitated by the neck portion (Z which is of a length preferably slightly in excess of the diameter of a spoke. a 7
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obviousv that a brush constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason .of the convenience and facility with which v-1t may be assembled and operated, and itwill also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as here inafter claimed.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, a brush for cleaning the spokes of a wheel comprising an elongated body, a spindle extending axially through the body and having a portion extended to provide a handle, the outer portion of the body being reduced in diameter to provide a cylindrical head at the outer end of the body, the portion of the body inwardly of and immediately adjacent to the head constituting a neck, the inner end of the neck and the inner end portion of the body being connected by a gradually tapered portion, and a buffer of yieldablc lVILLIAM J. COX.
