ANTISEPTIC ADHESIVE TAPE.

This invention relates to an antiseptic ad hesive tape and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a tape of the class referred to, capable of being handled in an absolutely sanitary manner when applied.

further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a tape of the class referred to, with a medicated element andwith means to prevent such element from becoming wet, damp or dislodged after the tape has been applied.

A further object of the invention is to rovide, in a manner as hereinafter vset for-t a tape of the class referred to, with a medicated element and with means for protecting such element when the tape is not in use.

A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a tape of the class referred to, whereby it can be made up in rolls or other forms without the surface thereof sticking together and further to retain the medicinal qualities thereof until applied.

-lFurther objects of the i-nvention are to rovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an antiseptic adhesive tape, which is comparatively sim le in its construction and arrangement, dura le, compact strong, thoroughly eflicient iii its use, conveniently applied, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. 1

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arran ement of parts, as hereinafter more speci cally described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodimentl of the invention, but it is to be understood .that -changes, variations and modifications t can be had which will come Within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

The lower face 3 of the web 1 is non-adhesive. The web l can be of any desirable length and Width.

Secured to the upper face of the web 1, by the adhesive substanceon said upper face and at the longitudinal center of the webl 1s a medicated element 4 which can be formed from any suitable flexible material folded or non-folded and provided with a suitable medicament. As lby way of example, the element 4 is illustrated as formed from light gauze material folded to provide a series of interengaging lengthwise extending folds 5, 6 and 7 of equal width. The fold 7 is" secured to the web l by the adhesive substance on the upper face thereof. The element 4 is ofllmaterially less width than the width of the -web 1 and is so-dis posed with respect to'the upper face of the web l as to be positioned equi-distant from each side edge of the web. The element 4 extends throughout the length of the web 1. Secured to the upper face of the web 1, at each side of the element 4, is a removable protecting elenientand the said protecting I by the reti erence character 8. Each of t e protecting elements is of less width than the width ofthe web 1 and has a portion cf its width, as indicated at 9, removably secured to the upper face of the web 1 and the portion 9 hasV its edge flush with the side edge of the web 1. That portion of the element' 8, which is removably secured to the web 1, is of less Width than that portion 10 of the element 8 which is not secured to the web l. The secured portion 9 of the element 8 is spaced from the side of the element 4. 4 The portions 10 of the protecting elements 8, when in protecting position ,with respect to the element 4, are arranged to overlap each other as shown in Figure 2 and with the portion 10 of one of the elements seated on the top of the element 4. l adhesive material which is exposed is uti-- lized to secure the web to a person whereby the medicated element 4 will be retained in position, and owing to the fact that the web l is of impervious material it prevents the element 4 from becoming wet or damp after having been applied, thus enabling the use of the tape, or it the tape is of plaster form, in water and under damp conditions. The protecting elements 8, which are constructed from any suitable material, such as gauze, are so attached to the web l at each side ofthe element 4 that the tape can be handled in an absolutely sanitary manner as it is unnecessary at any time to come in contact with the element 4.

A covering is provided for the web l and elements `8 and which consists of a web of wax or parafn paper or other material indicated at 11, and which is arranged in the manner as shown in Figure 2 and which is to completely envelope the web land elements 8 when these latter are in protective position with respect to the element 4. The elements 8, in connection with the covering l1, enable the tape to be made up in rolls or put up in any other form without the surfaces thereof sticking together and further the covering material assists to retain the medicinal qualities of theelement 4 until the tape is applied.

It is thou ht the many advantages of an antiseptic ahesive tape, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim is 1. A n antiseptic adhesive tape comprising an impervious web of appropriate width having one face thereof provided throu hout with an adhesive substance and its ot er face non-adhesive throughout, a lengthwise extending folded medicated element secured to said web by .the adhesive coating and coextensive with said web, said element of materially less width than the width of the web and spaced equi-distant from each side edge of the latter, and a pair of removable, oppositely extending protecting elements for said adhesive coating and said medicated element,

width materially each of said protecting elements having its outer side edge flush with the side edge of said web and its inner face at the outer portion thereof removably secured throughout to the adhesive face of the web at one side of the medicated element to provide a normally connected outer portion and a permanently disconnected inner portion, said protecting elements when removed eX- posing portions of said adhesive face to permit of said portions anchoring the web to retain the medicated element in position, said protecting elements having the inner portions thereof extending in opposite directions, normally overlapping each other, disconnected from each other, opposing and disconnected from said medicated element and providing oppositely disposed finger grips for removing said protecting elements.

2. An antiseptic adhesive tape comprising an impervious web of appropriate width havin one face thereof provided with an adhesive substance and its other face nonadhesive throughout, a lengthwise extending medicated element secured to said web by the adhesive coating and coextensive with said web, said element of materially less width than the width of the web and spaced from each side edge of the latter, a pair of removable, oppositely extending protecting elements for said adhesive coating and said medicated element, each of said protecting elements having its inner face at the outer portion thereof removably secured throughout to the adhesive face. ot' the web at one side of the medicated element to provide a normally connected outer portion and a permanently disconnected inner portion, said protecting elements when removed exposingV portions of said adhesive face to permit of said portions anchoring the web to retain' the medicated element in osition, said protecting elements having t e inner portions thereof extending in opposite directions, normally overlapping each other disconnected from each other, opposing and disconnected from said medicated element and providing .oppositely disposed finger grips for removing said protecting elements, an each of said protecting elements of a greater than the width of said medicated element.
