IMPROVEMENT IN NEEDLE-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,989, dated May 4, 187.); application filed March 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM HENRY YEo- MANS,OfAStWO0d,Re(l(litGl1, county of Worcester, England, have invented an Improved N eedle-Oase, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to construct a neat, convenient, and durable case for needles; and this object I attain in the manner 1 will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improvedneedle-case; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same; Fig. 3, a view showing the needles partly pushed from the case; and Figs. 4: and 5, plan views.
The needles a are contained throughout the greater portion of their length from their points upward in a sheath or case, A, at the bottom of which is a piece, .10, of cork or other suitable material to be penetrated by the points of the needles. The caseA is arranged to fit snugly, but slide freely, in an outer case, B, the-top of which is perforated for admitting A spring, 6, made of rubber, metal, or other suitable material, is arranged between the two cases, the tendency of the springbeing to maintain them in the relative position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing. .In the present instance this spring consists of a rubber band passing over the top of the inner case, and having its two ends secured to the inside of the outer case.
By simply pushing the inner case into the outer case the heads of the needles will be protracted from the latter, as shown in Fig. 3, and one or more of the said needles can be selected and withdrawn, after which the inner case may be released, when the spring will recoil, causing the two cases to resume their former relative position, and the heads of the needles to be withdrawn within the perforations in the top of the outer case. These perforations may be arranged, as shown in Fi 4, to receive each one needle, or, as shown in Fig. 5, to receive each two or more needles.
I claim as my invention A needle-holder consisting of an inner casing, A, for the reception of needles, an outer casing, B, sliding on the inner casing, and perforated at the top, and a spring, 6, whereby the outer casing is maintained in an elevated position, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WM. HY. YEOMANS. Witnesses:
HARRY J. MILWARD, ALFRED BARKER.
