Application filed m 27, 1926, Serial No. 112,121, and in Belgium Ma 4, 192's.
This inventionhas reference to a fastener for attaching together two ribbons or two pieces of garment and more particularly for p v attaching shoulder straps to the garment which is to be suspended therefrom. ;Our
improved fastener comprises an oblong plate on which is pivoted a U-shaped wire the shanks of which are adapted to be'inserted.
each into a hem in the fabric and thenengaged under a lug on the plate. In order to prevent the fabric puckering or twisting between the wire and plate, and causing the fastener to be tilted from the" required position of use, the longitudinal :edgesof the 5 plate project slightly above the surface of I the plate on which the shanks are adapted to lie, so that these raised edges shall cooperate each with the adjacent shank of. the wire in clamping the fabric. The .raisededges on the plate may be formed bystamplng and their depth is preferably smaller than the diameter ofjthe wire.
The accompanying drawing shows byway of example a fastener according to this invention, on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the fastener,
opened.
Fig. 2 shows the fastener closed and and 2 the longitudinal edges of the plate are bent and form on each side thereof a raised edge 5 against which the adjacent shank 6 of the wire t is adapted to lie when the fastener is closed.
In'Fig. 3 the fastener is shown 1n use for attaching together two ribbons 7 8 one of which is used as ashoulder strap, the other Fig. 2 'is a cross section taken on line :being sewn on a garment 9, such as a piece of ladles underwear. The shanks 6 are msci-ted each in a hem at the end of the rib: hon 7 and 8 respectively, so that on both sides of the plate 1 the fabric is clamped between a'shank 6 and the adjacent edge'5.
The fabric thus being caused to lie flat against each edgeof the plate, the fastener willlrecp in use the required horizontal position and will never be liable to inconveni'enc e the wearer. Any pull on the ribbon. 7 and fiapS will onlytend to bring'the shanks 6 closer to the raised edges 5, thus increasing the hold on the fabric over the whole width LA fastener for wearing apparel, com

prising an oblong plate having raised longitudinal "edges, a U-shaped Wire pivoted to one end of said plate, the shanks of said wire being adapted to lie against said edges substantially throughouttheir length, and catches on said plate for receiving the ends of said shanks. I I
2. A fastener forattaching together ,two
' ribbons and the'like, comprising an oblong plate having; raised longitudinal edges, an end lug and two side lugs, said end lug being curved to form a hinge piece, aU-shaped wire having its central portion pivoted in] said "hinge piece, the shanks of said wire being parallel to saidkraiserl edges, said side shanks 6 of the wire. As shown in Figs. 1 plugs being bent to form catches for the ends of said wire, said shanks being adapted to bear against'said raised edges when engaged under said lugs. 7
