In certain types of such-devices, the electrode enclosm vessel comprises a cylindrical metal ano e portion having flared ends on the and a glass portion fused to each flared end. The cathode is supported from one glass portion and the control electrode is supported froml the opposite glass portion.
It is the object of this invention to provide a unitary structure of the above type in which the water jacket is consolidated with the cylindrical anode of the device.
In the structure of 'this invention a member is secured to each end of the anode and a body surrounding the anode and composed of a number of sections joined together isl secured to said end members. Preferably, said body is formed in two parts, portions of said'parts being bent to form projections, and the corresponding projections of the two parts or halves are fused together. This arrangement provides a water-.tight enclosure which can be easily assembled and provides asupporting extension whereby the complete structure may be supported from a panel or other mounting surface. The improved water jacket is provided with inlet and outlet ports to which are attached removable hose couplings having a spring clamp and lever pivoted to the body of the coupling. The spring clamp engages a. shoulder on the inlet and outlet ports of the water jacket. This arrangement affords a simple and eficient water-tight coupling which may be readily disconnected from the water-jacket.

The election discharge devicecomprises a cylindrical metal anode portion having the ends iiared outwardly and reduced to a tapered edge. Glass' portions 11 and 12 are fused to the tapered ends in accordance with the disclosure in W. G. Houskeeper Patent 1,294,466, issued February `18, 1919 and en titled Combined metal and glass structure and method of making same. An inwardly projecting stem 13 is fused to the end of the glass portion 11 and carries a filament supporting structure comprising a'collar 14, supporting rods V15 and 16 and a base 17. A cathode 18 is supported between the base 17 and insulating block 19. The ends of the filament are connected to leading-in wires 20 and 21 which are sealed in tubular eX- tensions 22 and 23 in the stein 13, in accordance with W'. G. vHouskeeper Patent 1,293,441, dated February 4, 1919 and entitled Combined metal and glass structures and method of forming the same.
A similar glass stem 24 is fused to the end ot' glass portion 12 and projects within the vessel. This stem carries a collar 25 to which are attached rods 26 and 27, which diameter of which is substantially the same as the outer diameter of one end of the anode 10, is forced down on the thin wall end of the anode until it is seated on. the

the anode by soldering' or otherwise sealing the juncture of the anode 10 and the disc 33. A-similar disc is arranged on the other end of the anodeY A10 and sealed to the anode at 36. The thin walled ends of the anode are then flared in any suitable manner and reduced to a knife edge. Each disc is provided with a peripheral groove 37 on the inner surface thereof. These grooves are arranged to receive semi-cylindrical metal walls 38 and 39. Each of these walls is provided with angular extensions 40 and 41 arranged on the longitudinal ends thereof. A pair of apertures 42 are drilled in the angular ends for mounting purposes.
Prior to the flaring of the ends surface for weldin the semi-circular walls together, whereby t e space between the anode 10 and the walls of the jacket will be water-tight.
The wall 38 is provided with a tubular port 43 having a shoulder 44, projecting from the wall 38, adjacent the projection and is fused or soldered to the wall near one end thereof. A similar tubular port`45, is fused to the wall 39 and projects from the wall at the opposite end from the port- 43. A tubular coupling .member 46l is provided with a projecting collar 47 on one end which fits into the recess 48,' of the tubular ort. A reduced portion 49 on the other end o the coupling, receives a flexible hose connection 50. A U-shaped lever member 51 bent to follow the contour of the coupling is'pivoted at 52 adjacent the projection 47. A resilient wire clamp 53 is attached to the lever 51 and swings easily in its own arc.' This clamp comprises a semi-circular portion 4which is adapted to fit over'the shoulder 44 of the port, and a loop. portion on each side and at right an les to the semi-circular portion. A soft ruber washer 54 is arranged between the opposed faces of the coupling and the port and provides a water-tight connection when these members are clamped together.
Although the invention has been disclosed with reference to a particular construction, it is apparent that various detailed modifications may be made without departing from l the scope of the invention as recited in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
In combination, an electron discharge device having'an external anode with flared ends, glass portions fused to said flared ends, an electrode supported from each of said glass portions, ot' a water jacket surrounding said anode, said jacket comprising a pair of perforated discs welded to said anode, one near each end thereof and a body portion consisting of -two semi-cylindrical sections, portions thereof being bent to form a pair of projections on each part, corresponding projectionsof the two parts being welded together and the two parts being welded at their ends to said pair of discs.
