' The invention relates to spring bed bottoms and more particularly to' that type employing a rigid rectangular spring-supportlng frame formed of metal bars. Usu' ally such bars, for greater strength and for supporting the spring bottom in a bed frame are provided with -side angle bars -havlng outwardly projectin horizontal. flanges and vertical depending an es. The side angle bars are connected at t eir ends and intermediate their ends by means of transverse spring supporting bars and usually p the transverse end members are also formed of angle bars. The present invention seeks to provide an improved bed spring frame which is so constructed that without impairing its strength is devoid of sharp corners. As usual the rectangular frame of the bed spring comprises side rails' 1. transverse end members2 and a series of ihtermqpate transverse members 3. Rows of veftcal coiled springs 4 are mounted upo'nthe transverse members 2 and 3 L'and are connected `together in any'v usual on' suitable manner and to' a border wire 5 having rounded corners, as indicated in Fig. 1. For greater strength and rigidity the side rails 1, and referably also the end members 2 are) 'o1-med of angle bars, and preferably, as
shown, the side rails are larger and heavier than the end rails, the side angle bars' having depending vertical flanges and the end bars having upwardly projecting verticalV flanges upon which the end rows of springs are mounted'. The members 3 which carry the intermediate transverse rows of springs are formed as usual of flat metal bars, the ends of which overlap and are riveted to the outwardly projecting horizontal flanges of the side rails 1 and the intermediate portions of which are depressed and arranged in vertical planes.v
The end angle bars in 'the improved con. struction. terminate short of the corners of the bed spring frame and the horizontal andvertical flanges at the end portions of the side angle bars 1 are shaped by forging to form rounded corner portions 6 and 7 and inwardly projecting integral extensions 8 and 9 which overlap the ends of the angle bars 2. Preferably also the horizontal flanges 8 of the extensions are cut away or otherwise suitably reduced in width to correspond to the width of the angle bars 2, and are united to the horizontal flanges of the bars 2 preferably by rivets 10, as shown. The vertical flanges of the end angle bars 2 and the vertical flanges 9 of the integral extensions of the side bars 1 are provided, as shown, with rounded end edges 11 and 12.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 .to 4 inelusive, the inturned ends'of the side angle bars extend beneath the ends of the angle bar end members 2. If desired the hori- ,zontal flanges ofthe end members may extend beneath the horizontal flange 8 of the side bar extensions, as shown in Fig. 5,
