P'EFNF FFQ.
JOSEF FRANZ, OF BISCHOFSVIERDA, GERMANY.
COF TUBE.
Application led December 15, 1926, Serial No. 154,952, and in Germany June 9, 1925.
In order to prevent the yarn in the shuttlc of a weaving loom trom getting loose on the cop tube under the intiuence ot the shocks to which the shuttle is subjected,
l cop tubes are sometimes provided with annular or spiral ribs. As ordinarily made, `these ribs are liable to tear fine yarn and give rise to waste of material. The object ot the present invention is to provide such tubes with ribs which are able to prevent a loosening oi the yarn without tearing the same, and the invention consists in forming the ribs by the introduction of a thread or threads between the paper layers when the tube is made. The layers are pasted together, and as the thread is covered by the paper, a very smooth rib will be produced whereby the yarn cannot be torn.
Fig. l of the accompanying drawings represents a view of the cop tube according to one construction,
Fig. 2, a view showing the method of making the same,
Fig. 3, a View of another 'form of the tube, and
Fig. 4;, a view showing the method of making the latter tube.
The cop tube o is made in known manner by the winding of the gummed or pasted paper strip a on to a conical core. The tube is provided with ribs CZ or (Z1 which according to the invention are formed by the introduction of ai thread or threads between the paper layers. Annular ribs l are formed, -as shown in Fig. 2, by feeding 35 a plurality of threads in between the paper layers. In the case of a spiral rib (Z1, a thread e is used which is guided along the tube as the lat-ter is made, as indicated in Fig. 4. Y
As the thread or threads are embedded in the paste and covered by the paper, a smooth rib will be produced, and the production of' the ribs does not materially complicate the making of the tube.
I claim:
1. A cop tube composed of paper layers which are pasted together, and threads embedded between said paper layers so as to form circumferential ribs.
2. A method of making ribbed cop tubes out of paper and thread, consisting in winding a paper strip together with the thread about la core so that the thread becomes embedded between the paper layers and pro- 55 duces the ribs, the layers being pasted together over the thread.
JOSEF FRANZ.
