IMPRQVENlENT IN PANTALOONS-BLOCKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0 162,843, dated May 4, 1875; application tiled March 29, 187 5.

To all whom vit may concern: Be it known that I, JAMES MGGURDXQ'O Lock- Haven, in the county of Clinton and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Pantaloons-Block, ot which the following is a specilication:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a sectional side elevation of my improved pantaloons-block; Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same on the line .c x, Fig. l; and Figs. 3 and 4c are, respectively, a vertical longitudinal section and a top view of the legbottom clamping device.

My invention relates to an improved pantaloons-block for forming and ironing pants; and it consists ot' a forming-block made ot a front intermediate wedge and 4back part, and provided with a locking-bolt at the broader end,

l B the middle or wedge part, and C the back part, ot' my improved pantaloons-block, which slide by means of tongue-and-groove joints along eachother. The outer rounded edges of the front and back part show the general contour of the pants, and are introduced into each leg of the former through the lower end and the latter through the upper and wider end, while the wedge B being tapering from the lower broader to the upper narrower part is introduced between the saine from the lower part of the leg for expanding the outer parts until fitting the exact size of the pants. A sliding lock-bolt, D, runs in staples or sleeves a of the front and back piece, and prevents the separation or change of position of the same on sliding inthe wedge-piece. A clamping device, E, with cloth-lined jaws and setscrews, is applied to the front end ot' the garter-bottom of each leg, and attached by means of a leather strap, E', with metallic eyes to a retaining-pin, b, at the lower part ot' front piece A, for holding the leg in position for the insertion ot' the block.

When the pants are stretched on the forming-block both sides .are pressed with a common tailors iron. The ironing is accomplish ed in a much quicker and easier manner, even by unskillful hands, than heretofore, and imparts a perfect shape to the pants, which had to be given hitherto by special workmen employed for this purpose.

For dyeing and scouring establishments the block will be very useful for reshaping worn pants; also,t'or wholesale clothing-houses, as it facilitates the remodeling, stretchin g, and shaping ot' pants of all sizes.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Tlle combination, with the front piece of the shaping-block having fasteningpin at lower end, of a leather strap and clamping device attached thereto and to the lower front end ot leg for retaining the same in position on block, substantially as specied.
