Description

1,627,120 T. A. SAYEGH GAME APPARATUS Filed Jan. 6, 1927 AI'TURHZY I Patented May 3, 1927.-
'UNITED STATES tame TOUFIK ALBERT SAYEGH, or CENTRAL rAL s', 'Rnonii ISLAND.
GAME APPARATUS.
- Application filed January 8, 1927. Serial No. 159,372.
My invention has reference to an improvement in devices usedin playing games and more particularly toan improvement in a gan'le apparatus, used inplaying such games as indoor tennis, base ball, golf and the like.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of a game apparatus, for
tion, as will be more fully set' forth herein- 7 after and claimed. 1
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved game apparatus.
Figure 2 is a side view or the ratus, shown partly in sectlon.
Figure 3 is an enlarged longitudinal secgame, appational view of the game apparatus, taken on. line 3, 3, of Figure 1,'with the handle and a portion of the opposite end broken oiLand Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional View taken on line 4, 4, ofFigure 1. In the drawing 5 indicates my improved game apparatus and 6 a ball. This ball 6 may be any kind of a ball used in playing indoor games.
My improved game apparatus 5 consists of an elongatedbase 7 havinga handle 8 i on one end and a central groove 9 in the top.
01' the base, at the other end. On the base 7 is acover 10 open at each end and having a semi-circular top 11, flat sides 12, 12, with L shape feet 13, 13, secured to the base 7 by screws 14, 14. In the cover 10 are three separate tubular members 15, 16 and 17. The pull member 15 is at the handle 8 end of the apparatus and it has a closed outer end 18 on which is a knob 19. The striking member 16 is at the other end of the cover 10 and it has a closed outer end portion 20 on which is an enlarged striking end 21 larger and normally contactingwith that end of the cover 10 and having a sliding fit on the top of the base 7. The tubular member 17 is placed intermediate the members 15 and 16, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
The tubular members 15, 16 and 17 form a bore 22, closed at each end. In this bore 22 is a comparatively large main helical spring 23, secured at one end to the closed end 18 of the tubular member 15 and secured at its other endto the closed end portion 20 of the tubular member 16, by. any well known ineans'p On each side of the intermediate tubular member 17 is a comparative small PA ENT OFFICE...
helical spring 24, each spring 24 being secured at one end to the base 7 and at the other end to the intermediate tubular member'17, one end of these springs 24, 24, is secured to the base 7 towards the handle 8 and the other ends towards the other end 01'? the game apparatus, as shown in Figures -2 and 4, and the means for securing these springs 24, 24 may be any well known means. These springs 24, 24, are normally under spring tension so as to pull the. intermediate tubular member 17 towards the handle 8. The large main helical spring 23 having greater spring tension holds all of the tubular members 15, 16 and 17 in their normal positions, as, shown in full lines'in Figures 2 and 3.
When my improved game apparatus '5 is in use, the'object. to be thrown, such as the ball 6, is placed on the base 7 at the inner end of the groove 9 and against the enlarged striking end 21 of the tubular striking member 16,'as shown in Figures 1 and '2. The knob 19 is then drawn out by hand towards the handle 8, thereby placingthe tubular members 15 and 17, in'the separated posimoving the intermediate tubular member 17 towards the handle'8, as shown in broken lines also in Figure 1. The game apparatus is now aimed in the direction in which the ball 6 is to be thrown and the knob 19 re- 'tions, as shown'in broken lines in Figure 1. The contraction of the small springs 24, 24,
distance required and the groove 9 guides the ball in the direction desired.- The contraction of the springs 23 and 24 now causes the tubular members 15. 16 and 17 toassume their normal positions, as shown in full lines in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new A game apparatus comprising an elongated base, a handle on one end of the base, a cover on the base and forming a tube, a tubular striking member in one end of the cover and normally contacting with the end of the cover, a tubular pull striking member in the other end of the cover, a knob on the pull striking member, an intermediate tubuclosed at 'each 'en:d.;a helical spring in thecentral bore, one end of the spring being termediate tubular striking member and at their other ends tothe base, for the purpose has described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name ,to this speelfieetion.
