Description
Jlily I4, 1925.
v M. .WILKINSON TABLE GAME MPPARATIUS Filed March 26, 1925 Patented July 14, 1925 UNITED STATES MARY WILKINSON, F AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND.
TABLE GAME APPARATUS.
Application filed March 26, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY WILKINSON, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 451 Elliott Street, Auckland, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented a new and useful Table Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a special combination of devices of particular forms to pro- H vide for the playing of games upon an ordinary table or other flat surface.
The apparatus devised allows for the playing of games of mixed skill and chance, by which a special spinning ball is caused to move within an enclosure with the design of engaging other loosely placed balls and of moving them to different parts of the enclosure and thereby to score points governed by particular balls engaged and the parts in which they are left. The movements of the balls over the table surface are hindered by blocks placed on such surface and pro vided for that purpose.
The special construction devised is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which 2- Figure 1 is a plan of the parts assembled ready for playing.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a view of the spinning ball employed. 7
Figures 4 and 5 are enlarged detail views of portion of one of the side bars used to form the enclosure, Figure 4 being a cross section, and Figure 5 an underneath plan of one end.
The enclosure is formed by two lengths or bars A of wood, or other approved material, of approved and equal length and two rods B of metal that are also of equal length. These are adapted to be assembled to form a square enclosure by causing a downwardly turned end 6' at each end of each rod, to pass into an aperture (4 formed in the appropriate end of a bar A, each bar having such an Each bar A is preferably made of round Serial No. 18,482.
cross sectional shape, as shown in Figure 4:, so that score indicating rings C may be placed thereon to move along it. Its upper surface may then be provided with series of numerals corresponding with the score numbers as shown in Figure 1 and over which the said rings slide. To provide for the necessary clearance for the rings to slide, each bar has a rubber or like foot D affixed to its underside, near each end.
For use with this enclosure, a flat block E of metal or other approved material is provided, and this block is formed of generally cross shape so that four corner spaces are left around it. Such block may be made in a number of separate sections, as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure 1, if so desired, and for the purpose ofeconomizing space in packing. In addition a number of smaller flat blocks F of any desired shape are provided. Also four balls G of a size to be retained within the enclosure are provided, such balls being of any approved weight and material, as wood, Xylonite, etc.
The special spinning ball shown in Figure 3 consists in a ball H of approved material 76 and a peg J projecting radially therefrom. This is adapted-to be spun by twisting the peg between the thumb and fingers of the hand in a well known manner, so that it will turn on its rounded portion and move so about.
In playing the game, a ball G is positioned within each corner of the cross shaped block E, as in Figure 1, and the spinning ball spun and dropped on to the surface of the block E with the object of engaging one or more of the balls G and knocking them to parts of the enclosure, the blocks F forming obstructions in their movements and thereby constituting hazards in scoring.
- Iclaim:
1. Game playing apparatus formed by an enclosure upon a table surface, constituted by two parallel bars and two rods extending in parallel lines between the bar ends, a 95 cross shaped flat block adapted to be placed within such enclosure, and a spinning ball, substantially as specified.
2. In game playing apparatus according mounted to slide on such bar, substantially 1 to claim 1, constructing the said enclosure as and for the purpose specified.
With its bars and rods engaging by means of In testimony whereof, I 'afiix my signadoWnWardly turned ends on the rods pa'lssing ture. v
into apertures in the bars, substantial y as and for the purpose specified. MARY WILKINSON 3. In game playing apparatus according Witnesses:
to claim 1, a bar for the enclosure made of DAVID BROWN HU'rroN,
round cross-sectional shape, and rings ZILLAH JAMES.
