In said drawings 10 designates a casing, made of suitable insulating material, andi B preferably comprising a base 11 and a cover 12 corresponding in outline thereto. The base 11 and cover 12 are provided in their opposing faces with registering recesses 13 corresponding in outline with the general t5 contour of the contact terminals or members 14 adapted to be maintained in separated relation therein when saidv arts 11 and 12 are secured in assembled position by bolts 15 and nuts 16. l

The forward portion of the flat spring 28 extends .upwardly and forwardly and has its free end in contact .with the upper side of the movable plate 24 at about a point coinciding with a line drawn at right angles to the longitudinal axis of said plate, 24 and extending centrally through the projections 27 thereon.v
The free end of the spring 28 serves to hold the movable plate 24 in position upon the plate 17, and to yieldingly resist all vertical movement with respect thereto. v
y The operation of the device is largely ob-` vious. It is to be noted,.however, that when the end of a cooperating or detachable contact element, as, for example, a c lindrical pin 32 is first introduced between t e flaring ends 18 25 of said plates 17, 24, respectively, only a slight inward pressure is necessary, as the movable plate 24 in-pivoting a ainst the free end of the spring 28 only slightly opposes or resists the insertion of the end of said contact pin 32. This resistance to the inward movement' of the contact plin 32 gradually increases until the endV thereof passes the point under the forward end of the spring 28 vby which time the plates 17 24 will be brought into parallelism, and into full'engag'ement with the pin 32. t
Further, it is to benoted that where the contact element 33 to be received intermediate the platesvl, 24 is flat or of tapering but that the same may be employed in all types of electric apparatus in which` one set of contact members is carried by such' apparatus and adapted to receive a cooperating contact element forming` part 4of or con-vq nected to another cooperating device -or apparatus. i
Having thus described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: f
