TENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. BATTLE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOIR 'I'O GEORGE F. BERKANDER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IBARRETTE.
Application filed March 31, 1925. Serial No. 19,586.
This invention relates to barrettes and has for its particular objects the provision of a device which cannot be entangled in the hair of the wearer and which also can easily be positioned or removed from the head.
I have accomplished these desired results by devising a novel form of spring snap pin with a closed free end and a catch therefor with a wide mouth and sides that slope inwardly a certain distance and the bear outwardly to form a resting place for the pin. This construction furnishes a secure locking while the barrette is being worn and also permits of its being positioned and locked in place, or removed therefrom by the use of the thumb and one finger of one hand of the wearer.
I am familiar with the previous patents 20 on devices of this nature, but am not aware of any constructions which embody the novel features set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a side view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a View of the under side thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line of Fig. 1.
As shown, the barrette consists of a body which can be made of any desired ornamental type, this being the only portion visible when the device is in use.
On the under side of this body 10. the spring pin 11 is hingedly secured at one end to the ring 12 with its free end 13 shaped for engagement with the catch 1st. The spring pin 11 is formed with a closed ring end 15 for engagement with the body ring 12, parallel side members 1616 bent inwardly slightly at 1717 to form the narrower portion which engages with the catch 1% and the flattened, tempered free end 13 which serves to provide a pern'ianent resilience to the spring pin member.
The catch 14 may be made of any desired material and is formed with a comparatively wide mouth with sloping sides 1818 to permit of the easy admission of the narrow section 1717 of the spring pin, a
slight pressure on the said pin, being sutlicient to cause it to pass beyond the narrowest part oi points 19l9.
the entrance formed by the end of the pin from the catch. I claim which will effect its release A barrette comprising a body member, a.
catch thereon having a receptive opening consisting of angularly disposed side walls and a locking seat consisting of a rounded base and side walls disposed substantiallv at right angles to the side walls of the receptive openin and a resilient pin comprising an endless wire loop hiugedly connected to the said body member and having substantially parallel side members, the free end of the said loop being tempered whereby it may be forced inside of and released from the interior of the said catch on the body member.
